Y&R Star Is A Little Dolly!

LindParton.jpg

Music superstar Dolly Parton is producing a TV movie for NBC based on her life called Coat Of Many Colors, and revealed today on THE TODAY SHOW that she has selected Alyvia Alyn Lind (Faith, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) to play herself as a child in the film!

Parton's 1971 song tells the story of how her mother stitched rags together into a coat for her daughter telling the biblical story of Joseph and his Coat Of Many Colors. But when the excited girl shows off her new coat at school, her classmates make fun of her for wearing rags.

Luckily, because Y&R uses both Lind and Mckenna Grace as Nick and Sharon's daughter, Grace can easily fill in while Lind is off shooting with Parton. When an airdate is announced for Coat Of Many Colors, we'll let you know. But in the meantime, you can watch Parton surprise the 7-year-old actress with the news in the video below!

They're Having A Baby!

ScottBaileyAdrienneFrantz.jpg

Soap opera veteran Adrienne Frantz (ex-Amber, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL/THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and her husband, Scott Bailey (Sandy, GUIDING LIGHT) have announced that they are expecting, and they did it in the cutest way, with a candid YouTube video. "Yes, I'm pregnant!" Frantz confirms excitedly.

But what prompted the video? "I was watching a commercial," Frantz explains. "It was about what you should know before becoming a parent and I started sobbing profusely." Bailey was so taken by his wife's intense reaction that he couldn't resist recording it. "After the struggle we've had trying to have a child, we thought we might just post the video as our way of showing people that yep, we're gonna have a baby."

"At first, I wasn't too thrilled because I thought he was making fun of me," Frantz admits. "But at the same time, you've gotta be able to laugh at yourself, and it was funny. Life is an adventure that way." Now safely into her second trimester, Frantz says that she's feeling well and that they are both eagerly anticipating their daughter's December 1 due date. For more from the happy couple, including news about the upcoming Lifetime movie they made, check out their joint Keeping Track feature this summer in Soaps In Depth.

Double The Fun!

DougDavidson.jpg

This August, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' fans will be able to get a double dose of good, sudsy entertainment — show vet Doug Davidson (Paul) will be holding his first-ever fan event at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, CA, at 8 p.m., on Friday, August 14, while Y&R will be holding its biannual fan event at the same spot at 5 p.m., on Saturday, August 15.

For his own meet-and-greet, Davidson says that he wanted to do something special for "those people that have hung around for 37 years or 30 years, or even 20 years. They have been with us in the darkest days and the brightest hours."

In fact, after decades of correspondence, the Emmy winner regards many fans as friends. "My house is filled with things that they've sent," he shares. "The latest example is with my dad's passing, I've got pictures that they've taken off of the Internet of me and my dad, and the lyrics of Rick Springfield's song, 'My Father's Chair,' in a beautiful presentation...They share in your pain and they share in your joy, and for that I feel compelled to walk the extra mile!"

To purchase tickets or for more information on both events, please email Cathy Tomas at yrfanclub@cbs.com.

St. John Brings Lawsuit

KristoffStJohn.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Kristoff St. John (Neil) and his ex-wife, Mia, this week filed a lawsuit against La Casa Psychiatric Health Facility claiming that their negligence led to the death of their son, Julian.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, St. John opened up about the loss of his son and his belief that the Long Beach, CA, facility regularly skipped mandatory check-ins and observations of Julian and that employees falsified documents to cover up their alleged neglect.

Following an earlier suicide attempt, Julian was supposed to be checked on every 15 minutes, but St. John alleges that surveillance footage shows that no one checked on his son for almost an hour before they found him unconscious. The suit also alleges that the staff did not react to the discovery in an appropriate way, not treating it as an emergency. "How do you not call 911 immediately?" the actor asked in the interview.

St. John hopes that this case will shed light on the lack of proper care in mental hospitals nationwide, and as well as bringing justice for his son's death, help other struggling patients experiencing inadequate care.

Send Me An "Angel"

FrankRunyeonYR.jpg

Frank Runyeon (Steve, AS THE WORLD TURNS) makes his THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS debut as a helpful character named Angel on Thursday, May 28 . The soap vet says he received an invitation to play the spiritual force who interacts with Nikki and Victor from Y&R's executive producer/headwriter, Charles Pratt, Jr., who was his former boss on SANTA BARBARA, where he played Michael.

"It's always fun to come in and do this stuff," Runyeon tells Soaps In Depth. "Chuck comes up with something and says 'How am I going to get anyone to do this? Then he goes, 'Oh, I bet Frank can do this!' It's always fun."

Ironically, Runyeon was given the dressing room belonging to his former ATWT co-star Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael; Kirk, ATWT) during his brief visit to Genoa City. "I knew Eric Braeden (Victor) from the Daytime Emmys, and I knew Peter Bergman (Jack) back in New York from ALL MY CHILDREN [where he played Cliff]."

In addition to touring across the country in religious shows, Runyeon is writing his autobiography that has the working title Escape From Hollywood: An Actor's Journey to Faith. "It's the story of my life," he says. To learn more about Runyeon's work, check out his Web site www.frankrunyeon.com.

Mr. Write

ChuckPratt.jpg Given the fact that Y&R is the No. 1 soap in daytime — and has been in that spot for decades — it's not surprising that the decision to hire Charles Pratt Jr. six months ago as Y&R's executive producer/headwriter came with a lot of scrutiny. And some negativity.

"Right away when I came in, I got the usual hate stuff," admits the scribe. "For a second, it kind of affects you! People don't realize it, but they're attacking my confidence. And if I start doubting myself on day four, we're in real trouble! The viewers that have watched Y&R every day for years are entitled to a strong opinion, but I don't like the personal stuff about other shows. Quite frankly it [ticks] me off. This shouldn't be about other shows, it's about this show. And if I do a good job, and please [the fans], ratings will go up. If I don't do a good job, I won't be doing the job long."

CBS Files Motion To Dismiss Victoria Rowell's Lawsuit

RowellLawsuitPic.jpg

The real-life drama between former THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla) and CBS/Sony Pictures Television took a new twist this week! CBS and Sony have filed a motion to dismiss Rowell's lawsuit, in which she claims that Y&R refused to rehire her in retaliation for her public complains about the lack of diversity at the soap, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, in legal papers filed earlier this week, the defendants asked the court to dismiss the case, citing their initial contention that casting decisions are protected by the First Amendment -- and that Rowell never actually applied for or auditioned for a Y&R role after exiting the show in 2007. Instead, "she asked Defendants on several occasions if they would create a new position that she played, Drucilla Winters, back into the Y&R story line. Specifically, Plaintiff wanted Defendants to create a story line for Drucilla Winters, and to cast Plaintiff in the role. Defendants never agreed to do so." CBS and Sony also point out that there's no requirement under the Fair Employment and Housing Act that employers should create new positions when asked.

GL Star Visits GC!

LindseyMcKeon.jpg

As previously reported, Lindsey McKeon (Marah, GUIDING LIGHT) will appear on THE YOUNG & THE RETLESS for two episodes starting Thursday, May 7, as Felicity.

"She's confident, definitely a strong female character who is supportive in an odd way," McKeon cryptically previews of her Y&R role. "It's been fun for me to come back to daytime to play this character."

McKeon had blonde hair when she played Marah, but these days she's sporting a darker mane. "It was fun being blonde when I was young but then there were roles I'd audition for that didn't feel like me because they'd lean more towards being ditzy," she candidly shares. "I definitely prefer more serious, dark [parts]. There's a lightness and naiveté towards blondes. This [darker hair] feels more like me. It's wonderful."

Though the pace of shooting soaps has quickened since her days in Springfield, the Emmy-nominated actress says that her time on GL was invaluable when it came to doing this latest role. "I think because I'd been on [GL] I was able to get back into the flow," she says. "Daytime is its own machine and, thankfully, I can fit into it."

McKeon admits she's open for reprising Felicity, but, currently, the actress is waiting to hear if the primetime pilot CODE BLACK, in which she has a role will be picked up for series by CBS. "It's set in an LA County hospital.," she says of the drama which stars Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden. "There was a documentary done on this and now there's a [scripted series] based on the documentary."

Soap Vet Is Y&R's Angel

FrankRunyeonHeadshotinT-shirt.jpg

Daytime vet Frank Runyeon is returning to soaps! TV Insider is reporting that the actor will be appearing as Angel (who is also a literal angel!) on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS!

Runyeon hit it big in the 80s as AS THE WORLD TURNS' Steve, who alongside Meg Ryan's Betsy, was half of one of the soap's biggest supercouples at the time. He also played Michael on SANTA BARBARA, and even had small roles on GENERAL HOSPITAL, ANOTHER WORLD and ALL MY CHILDREN.

Y&R is remaining mum as to exactly why an angel will be visiting Genoa City, but you can expect to see Runyeon's Angel make his debut on Thursday, May 28, with another appearance on Tuesday, June 2. Who do you think will be visited by an angel? Sound off in the comments!

EXCLUSIVE: Y&R's Morgan Is Expecting!

MishaelMorgan.jpg

Mishael Morgan (Hilary) tells Soaps In Depth exclusively that she and her husband are expecting their first child in August! "We were actually thinking about planning a family this year... and it happened a little earlier than we anticipated," she smiles. "But I'm the kind of person who wants things to happen when they're supposed to happen, and am open to it. So it was a happy blessing!"

At the moment, the actress doesn't know the sex of the baby. However, that will change in May when she flies home to Toronto for her baby shower, which she has combined with a baby reveal ceremony. "The only person that knows right now is my baker, who is baking me a cake," she shares with a laugh. "Inside it's going to tell me whether it's a girl or a boy, so when we cut the cake at the baby shower, we'll all find out together! I thought it would be a nice way to celebrate that moment when we are all together, because not everybody is going to be there when the baby is going to be born."

Morgan confesses that she and her husband would be thrilled if the inside of the cake turned out to be pink! "I do have a preference because I want my girl to be older than my son — so for that to happen, it has to be a girl!" she laughs. "When I was growing up, all the boys that I liked and was attracted to and who always treated women amazingly were the ones who had older sisters! So I wish my girl would be first, but it doesn't really matter. If I have a boy and he becomes an older brother to protect her, that's good, too! I'm just very excited!"

The actress' pregnancy will not be written into her storyline on Y&R, so look for Hilary's collection of oversized purses to expand in the near future!

LeBlanc Can't Wait For Emmy Night!

LeBlanc8.jpg

Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy 10 times before this one — and taken home three of those trophies — but he insists that it never gets old!

"I'm amazed!" he enthuses. "It's a celebration for all of us. It's our business card. It's an interesting process. You hate it or you love it. If you're nominated, you're not by any means the best actor in the world or even of daytime. You are there celebrating the community of daytime along with the rest of your peers."

To earn the nod, LeBlanc submitted the episode where Michael tells Lauren he has cancer, but he forgot when the nominations were being announced and was actually at the gym when he got a text! "Steve Burton (Dylan) of all people, which was very sweet," he recalls. "And then it all came in a bunch [of texts]. I was on this running thing and I went flying into some gym class behind me to show everyone my text, 'Hey look!'"

He's also excited that the ceremony is being broadcast on television again, and from Warner Bros. Studio. "I think it's a brilliant idea!" LeBlanc smiles. "I like the old Hollywood aspect of it, I like having a long red carpet again. It will be interesting. It's a first. I was ready for something different. The red carpet [last year] was a [disaster] and we're trying to make it better. It's a historic soundstage. It's up to them to make a really great show."

Ehrich Reacts To Third Emmy Nod In A Row!

MaxEhrichGal.jpg

Max Ehrich (Fen, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) was in North Carolina shooting the primetime series UNDER THE DOME when the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced, so he was checking Twitter to see how Y&R fared in this year's contest! And when he was nominated for Outstanding Younger Actor, his DOME co-stars Mackenzie Lintz and Grace Victoria Cox were eager to share the good news!

"They went to set and must have told everyone," he recalls, "because when I came to set, they told the director Peter Weller, who is an Oscar nominee, it was a cool, surreal experience because he pulled me out and was like, 'Congratulations' and made a big announcement of it. It was very cool."

This is the third year in a row that Ehrich has been nominated in this category, but he insists you never get used to it. "Because there is such a high caliber that you are up against," he says. "I honestly had no idea what to expect. I already feel blessed to be doing what I love for a living, but to be recognized by my peers, that's what puts me on cloud nine."

Ehrich earned the nomination for the episode where Fen learned that his father, Michael, has cancer. "I did that scene because I know a lot of people, including myself, who have lost loved ones to cancer, and I thought it had a strong impact," he explains. "I felt really emotionally connected to those scenes, and finding out. Christian [Jules LeBlanc, Michael], Tracey [E. Bregman, Lauren] and Greg [Rikaart, Kevin] were all in those scenes, and everybody was outstanding. I feel like I owe it to them, because I was just reacting off of them."

And while LeBlanc is in the running for Lead Actor this year, Ehrich is disappointed Bregman didn't receive a nomination of her own. "I'm truly saddened by that," he declares, "because she's phenomenal as an actress and the scenes that she's had, they were amazing. She has my vote!"

Heinle Surprised Again By Emmy Nomination!

AmeliaHeinle.jpg

Amelia Heinle (Victoria, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is currently in the mountains of Georgia visiting her sister, so she found out she had been nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Supporting Actress category via a text message! "I'm so honored," she declares. "This is cool!"

Last year, the actress admitted to us she was surprised to earn the nomination that led to her eventual win because she didn't feel she had a lot of material to choose from, and this year seems no different for her. "I didn't know how the whole things works," Heinle confesses, "and now being involved in the process and voting and everything... this is my second year voting and I'm starting to understand how it works. This year I don't have a lot. the pickings were slim. So I'm even more surprised this year!"

To earn the nomination, Heinle submitted the show featuring the anniversary of Delia's death. "It was a complete show so I just picked that, because I couldn't find anything else," she admits. "When you look back at a body of work over a year, sometimes you have a lot of great work and sometimes you just have to listen to your instinct and what that tells you.

"I talked to [my husband] Thad [Luckinbill, ex-J.T.] about it," she adds, "and he picked something totally different. I was like, I am not submitting that!"

Heinle is thrilled to see former castmate Billy Miller (ex-Billy, now GENERAL HOSPITAL's Jake/Jason) earn a nod for his part in the Delia storyline as well as Elizabeth Hendrickson (ex-Chloe), even if they're competing in the same category again. "If she wins, I will be extremely happy," Heinle insists. "She did such a great job and she's such a sweet, sweet girl. And that was a tough competition last year. I'm shocked that I won. I thought she really deserved it!"

Hendrickson Returns To Y&R For Emmy Night!

ElizabethHendricksonGal.jpg

Elizabeth Hendrickson (ex-Chloe) hasn't appeared on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS since last May, but has earned herself a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the Supporting Actress category. "I was so close to not submitting," she confesses. "Because I was gone, I didn't know how that would be received. I never know how to deal with that. But I felt like my last year was my best year, so why not give it one more shot?"

The previous year, Hendrickson had submitted Chloe's reaction to the sudden death of her daughter, Delia, but this time the actress opted to submit her farewell episode. "I usually tend to submit on the lighter side, but this was my most honest work that I had of a full show," she says. "The Delia stuff was pretty much done with and I'd already been there, done that. It was really all about one scene with Greg [Rikaart, Kevin] and saying good-bye to him. I still get chills thinking about it. It was really fitting. Last year, last day, last submission."

Hendrickson is looking forward to seeing her old Y&R castmates again at the ceremony, and laments those who won't be joining her as an Emmy nominee. "I was bummed that [Greg] didn't submit," she confides. "I think everything he does is gold! I was really bummed not to see Missy [Melissa Claire Egan, Chelsea] get nominated. I was really proud to see her submit in lead actress. I think that was an awesome, bold, well-deserved move. So I was bummed not to see her up there, because I think she deserved it. You never know how these things work!"

Kristoff St. John Prepares For Emmy Night

KristoffStJohn.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Kristoff St. John (Neil) missed seeing his name announced live on television for his nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor! "I thought I'd find out today on THE TALK," he says, "but then I heard it came out East Coast time."

The actor was also taking the nod with a grain of salt. "I've been in the business a long time," St. John muses, "and it is a wonderful feeling to be part of the elite pack, but the truth is all the actors and actresses, the people who work behind the scenes, we're all doing it for the same reason. We're all part of that elite group, but for this brief shining moment, there are five in a category and one will be singled out and be able to hold the gold trophy."

While St. John had lots of good material to choose from, he earned his nod with the episode where Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm) returned for a brief visit. "The second one I considered as well," he admits, "but I thought the first one had a little bit more meat and substance to it. There was a consistent, steady back and forth between these two brothers, and I felt it had a better chance than the other episodes."

Although thrilled for his fellow co-workers who are also in the running for awards, St. John confesses he's surprised his on-screen son isn't with them. "I'm very disappointed that Bryton [James, Devon] didn't get a nomination after he did such really raw, moving emotional work last year."

A two-time Emmy winner, St. John says he's never prepared an acceptance speech in advance. "I'm going to cast my fate to the wind," he declares, "and if I should be so lucky and walk up on that stage... we'll see what happens. I'm in a tough category. I'm honored to be invited to the dance!"
