BB Evictee To Guest On B&B!

DonnyThompson.jpg

On the Thursday, August 28, live episode of CBS' BIG BROTHER, fan favorite Donny Thompson was evicted from the house. But as a consolation prize, host Julie Chen informed the former groundskeeper that THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL had contacted the reality show because they want Donny to guest star on the soap!

Right now, Donny is still sequestered in the BIG BROTHER jury house with the other evicted houseguests in preparation for selecting a winner in the Wednesday, September 24, finale. So there's no way of knowing exactly when he'll be appearing or who he might be playing. With his DUCK DYNASTY-style beard, Donny isn't the most obvious fit for the glamorous sudser... so who do you think he might play?

B&B's Wagner Gets Deadly!

Heartbreakers.jpg

It's a MELROSE PLACE reunion! Well, not really, but it's as close as we're probably gonna get. Jack Wagner (ex-Nick, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL; ex-Frisco, GENERAL HOSPITAL) stars alongside MELROSE co-stars Jamie Luner (Liza, ALL MY CHILDREN) and Rob Estes in the premiere episode of Investigation Discovery's (ID) new re-enactment series, HEARTBREAKERS. In it, he'll play an Independence, MO, preacher who famously got caught up in a deadly affair.

"I was able to step out of what people might know me as from my [previous] television roles and really play this deeply self-consumed, narcissistic, thinks-he's-God-type minister who basically controls his parish," offers Wagner of his character, David Love. "He winds up having an affair and killing the woman's husband."

B&B's Mosley Waxes Poetic!

KarlaMosley.jpg

Inspired by a magazine article about a man who wrote a haiku a day, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Karla Mosley (Maya) set a similar goal for herself, daily writing brief "micropoems" that range from the silly to the sublime. The actress compiled a collection of her favorites into the newly-released self-published book called Short Poems For A Long And Happy Life, which is currently available in paperback at Amazon.com.

"The only reason it happened is because of the fans that I stay in touch with on social media," Mosley explains. "I was posting haikus, and fans started asking me, 'When are you putting a book together?' I finally said, 'Why not?'"

In addition to adding "published author" to her repertoire, Mosley has kept busy during B&B's summer hiatus on the set of HART OF DIXIE, on which she recurs as the comically stereotypical Southern belle, Elodie. In July, Mosley shared with Twitter fans a setside photo of herself sporting a bright pink bow on her head for the role. "All pink. All day," she quipped. "Must be back in Dixie."

Gaskill Delivers Quite A Speech!

Brian_Gaskill25672.jpg

Soap hopper Brian Gaskill (GUIDING LIGHT's Dylan, AS THE WORLD TURNS' B.J., THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Oscar, PORT CHARLES' Rafe and ALL MY CHILDREN's Bobby) has just released a dramatic short film called The Speech. "I'm very excited about getting this film out there," he says.

Gaskill not only stars in the short opposite actress Clea Rivera, but also wrote the script and co-directed it. "It takes place at a wedding reception," the actor explains, "and is about a couple exploring their past together and what that means to their relationship now.

"Soap viewers will be super comfortable with the romantic setting and wedding wardrobe," Gaskill adds with a chuckle before warning: "But it definitely takes a turn away from standard soap fare... it may get a little racy!"

The Speech was funded through Kickstarter with donations from friends and fans, and you can watch it now below. "I couldn't have done it without Ambika Leigh, Garrett Robinson and the whole gang at the film collective and workshop, We Make Movies," Gaskill declares proudly.

Daytime Emmy Awards Preview!

GrahnDiamontEmmyShow.jpg

Fans have lots of questions now that it's been announced that the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are going to be broadcast not on a network or cable outlet, but rather streamed via the Internet at www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST on Sunday, June 22. Soaps In Depth spoke to David Michaels, Senior Executive Director, Daytime Emmy Awards for The National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences, about what viewers can expect on the big day!

Soaps In Depth: Will the format be different? Will the show have a time limit?
David Michaels: As I understand it, the plan is for the show to go straight through — there will be no commercial breaks. We're treating it like a live show. It'll run for two hours.

In Depth: There tend to be fewer rules on the Internet about what people can do. Might we see more of a party atmosphere for this show?
Michaels: I'm not sure. It's the same setting room and people, the same party. I don't know if people will feel that they can take advantage of the "no-holds-barred" rules of the Internet or not.

Meet B&B's Ivy!

AshleighBrewerHeadshot.jpg

Former Australian soap star Ashleigh Brewer will debut on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL in July as Eric's nice, Ivy, the daughter of the designer's younger brother John, who has been living in Sydney. Soaps In Depth caught up with Brewer following her first few days of taping to find out how she's settling into the role.

"My first day at work was last Friday, and it was a whirlwind day," says the Queensland-born actress, whose previous acting role was a five-year stint on the Australian soap NEIGHBORS. "I was lucky in that a lot of my scenes were group scenes, so there were eight or nine of us on set. I got to meet a big handful of the B&B cast all at once."

Brewer admits her life has been a whirlwind since her casting was announced, and she's even been invited to join B&B's retinue in Monte Carlo at the annual International Television Festival in June. "I feel like I'm not even deserving of it yet, because I've only worked a few days — like I'm cheating the system," she jokes. "I've gotten all of these incredible perks before I even officially started airing. It's as if I'm dreaming all of this a little bit!"

B&B's Jones Has A Secret!

AshleyJonesSexLife.jpg

If you thought THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL was steamy, Ashley Jones (ex-Bridget) promises you haven't seen anything yet! The actress is both the star and executive producer of Lifetime's sizzling new feature, The Secret Sex Life Of A Single Mom.

Based on Canadian author Delaine Moore's memoir by the same name, it's the tale of a 30-something mother's personal journey from painful divorce to self-discovery. Jones stars as Moore, whose best pal (played by GENERAL HOSPITAL's Cynthia Preston, ex-Faith) encourages her to try on-line dating, with some intriguing results. "The script is definitely a tamer version of Delaine's life," Jones giggles. "It is TV-MA, which is television for mature audiences, but I think Lifetime wanted to keep it tasteful..."

Look for the single gal to explore her long-dormant sensuality by taking a walk on the wild side. "It could happen to Bridget! That's the kind of shock and awe that I think Lifetime wants to bring to this project," Jones suggests of the soapy tale. "I think I was hired because they think I could make it seem like this could happen to anyone."

Watch a preview by clicking here and don't miss the film's world premiere on Saturday, May 31, at 9 p.m. EST on Lifetime!

Emmy Nominees React!

MelissaClaireEgan.jpg

How did THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS Daytime Emmy nominees find out that they'd made the final cut? What episodes did they submit? Read on to find out!

Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea, Y&R): "I had a 7:30 call so I woke up at 6:15 to several missed calls and texts. When I saw 11 missed phone calls, I thought then, 'I guess maybe... I don't think they would have called me to tell me, Sorry, you didn't get nominated!' It's always so thrilling this exciting, pleasant, flattering thing. It never gets old. I feel really grateful.

"I submitted an episode when the whole Dylan/Chelsea/Adam baby bombshell was coming out. The episode was with me and Steve Burton (Dylan), when everything was coming to a head. It's actually my favorite reel I've ever submitted for any Emmys, because it's such an arc. It starts out with where he's starting to question Connor's sight, and I say that Adam had the same condition. Dylan says, 'What are the odds that our son and your ex-husband had the same condition...' It arcs to Chelsea telling Dylan that Connor isn't his son, he's Adam's son, and everything explodes. I felt it was a rollercoaster, where it's tick, tick, tick, tick, up and then down and up and down... it was really a no-brainer for me."

B&B Star Checks In To GH!

RonnMoss.jpg

Daytime vet Ronn Moss (ex-Ridge, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) confirms to Soaps In Depth that he'll be appearing on at least one upcoming episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL (like, maybe today)! He's keeping mum on exactly who he'll be playing and what he'll be doing in Port Charles, but the actor/musician (Moss is a member of the band Player) will be airing during the Nurses Ball so there's speculation that he'll be not just acting on the show, but singing, too!

How'd it all come about? "[GH's headwriter] Ron Carlivati came up with the concept," Moss reveals to In Depth. "He ran it by Frank [Valentini, executive producer]. Everybody loved it!"

The former CBS Daytime star admits that an offer from a rival network surprised him, but adds, "It shows me how savvy the guys are who are running [GH]. I think it's going to be a good payoff for them."

Moss and his new pals at ABC agreed to keep the casting coup under wraps for as long as possible. "We all chose collectively to keep it a secret," he says. "That was kind of the point of it."

It's a bit serendipitous that Moss has landed back at ABC. The actor started out his acting career there in a talent development program prior to landing on B&B. "It was myself, Robin Wright (Kelly, SANTA BARBARA), Arsenio Hall, Emmanuel Lewis (WEBSTER), Emma Samms (ex-Holly, GH), and Gordon Thomson (Mason, SB). We all started out together and then went our separate ways."

Moss didn't feel like a stranger in Port Charles. While he says Michelle Stafford (Nina, GH; ex-Phyllis, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) hadn't started there yet when he shot his scenes, he did see on set many of his former B&B co-stars. "I saw Ian Buchanan (Duke; ex-James, B&B), William deVry (Julian; ex-Storm, B&B), Rick Hearst (Ric; ex-Whip, B&B) and other people I've known for years like Anthony Geary (Luke) and Finola Hughes (Anna)."

Although GH is only a brief appearance, Moss wants his fans to know that he loves being a part of the soap opera world and has no ill will towards the genre. "To blatantly say 'I would never go back to daytime' would be a slap," he declares. "I never said that. But people will read into things what they want to."

Bob Barker "Comes On Down" To B&B!

BobBarkerScottClifton.jpg

TV icon and game show legend Bob Barker will appear on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL on Wednesday, April 30, and Thursday, May 1, as part of several documentary-style episodes tackling the issue of animal welfare.

Though it's not his first cameo on B&B — he briefly appeared on the show for a fashion storyline back in 2002 — Barker says he's thrilled to return this time to espouse a cause so close to his heart. "I do an interview [with Liam, for Spencer Publications] about the problem of overpopulation of animals," he says. "That interview is completely ad-libbed."

The former emcee says he's thrilled that his message about the importance of spaying and neutering pets will reach B&B's immense global audience. "This is going to be helpful to countless animals," he says. "We've got to get the word out, and then it'll change."

Barker's message of adopting pets from shelters (rather than acquiring them from breeders) struck such a chord on set that three B&B employees — including Scott Clifton (Liam) and the show's supervising producer, Ed Scott — adopted pets from the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter where the show filmed part of this storyline. That, says Barker, was the real icing on the cake. "Oh I was so pleased about that."

Would the nonagenarian be willing to come back for another appearance on the soap? Without a doubt. "I'll come back anytime they want," he says. "If all I have to do as an actor is talk about spaying and neutering, I'm their man!"

Watch a behind the scenes video teaser of the episodes below!

Daytime Emmys Are In June

EmmyTrophies.jpg

The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held Sunday, June 22, at the Beverly Hilton. However, a broadcast deal has yet to be struck, so while the ceremony has aired on HLN for the last two years, there's no word on which network might air this ceremony yet. Still, the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences are confident a deal will be reached.

The Creative Arts portion of the Daytime Emmys are scheduled to be handed out on Friday, June 20, at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

Final nominees in all categories are set to be announced on Thursday, May 1. Based off the pre-nominations that have been revealed, who are you hoping gets a nod?

B&B Exec Leads Important Crusade

MelodyEdScott.jpg

When he's not overseeing the production of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL for his day job, supervising producer Ed Scott is trying to save the world — literally. The TV exec and husband of Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is the CEO of the Save The Earth Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to helping raise both awareness and funding for environmental research in collaboration with major universities.

The organization has planned several exciting events for Earth Week this week. On Tuesday, April 22, Chicago's No. 1 rock station, The Drive 97.1 will auction off a Candy Apple Red Fender Standard Stratocaster signed by Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler. For more information check out the STE auction site. The foundation is also sponsoring a major symposium on Saturday, April 26th featuring the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the focus of which will be the problem of marine debris.

"There are three huge garbage patches in our oceans right now, one of which is in the North Pacific and covers an area the size of Texas," Scott explains. "The fish eat the plastic, and god only knows what it does to us when it gets into our system. The other major problem is container ships dropping big containers. Every year hundreds fall off of ships in rough seas, and they're really fouling up the water."

Scott points to a new book called Emotion For The Ocean by Chet Forrest, which explains, in layman's terms, the devastation being done to our oceans and marine life. "The oceans are our lifeblood," says Scott. "I don't think enough people understand the severity of what is happening, but we have to get it resolved. We can't keep destroying the oceans like we're doing."

Gaskill Takes On The Bard!

BrianGaskill-192.jpg

From the "Just when I thought I'd heard everything" files has come STRIPPING SHAKESPEARE, a provocative new Web series from the We Make Movies filmmakers collective in Los Angeles. In each episode, famous scenes from The Bard's works are set in a scintillating new context, replete with professional pole dancers and burlesque performers. Who knew Shakespeare could be so sexy? Daytime TV veteran Brian Gaskill (Dylan, GUIDING LIGHT; ex-Ozzie, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL; Bobby, ALL MY CHIlDREN; Rafe, PORT CHARLES), who is a member of the collective, appears in the episode airing this Sunday, April 13.

"My friend, Nicol Razon, produced it," Gaskill shares. "The series is about her taking her love of Shakespeare and putting it into a format that is maybe gonna raise some eyebrows, but it's also gonna promote conversation and get people to pay attention to what the filmmaker is doing to be creative."

This Sunday's episode is based on The Taming Of The Shrew with Gaskill reciting the lines of Petruchio opposite Razon as Kate. But don't look for the traditional, 16th century costuming and staging. Rather, it plays out in a much more imaginative way. "It's more like artistic music videos of Shakespeare," offers Gaskill, who first began performing the great poet's work back in high school. To experience it for yourself, visit Strippingshakespeare.com or the We Make Movies YouTube channel here.

Stars Added To THE BAY!

MossKanan.jpg

Two hunks from THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL — one past, one future — have joined the cast of the Emmy-nominated Web soap THE BAY! Ronn Moss (ex-Ridge) is set to play John Blackwell, the former district attorney of Bay City, while Sean Kanan (who returns to B&B as Deacon in June), has joined the Internet serial as press secretary Kenneth Allen. That role previously played by Brody Hutzler (ex-Patrick, DAYS OF OUR LIVES; ex-Cody, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS).

Why the change with Kanan taking over for Hutzler? "Brody is a good friend of mine and a wonderful talent," Gregori Martin, THE BAY's executive producer/creator, tells Soaps In Depth. "He's busy with some other great projects at the moment, and this gave us an opportunity to go in another direction with the character. Sean and Nicolas [Coster, Jack] have a great dynamic. Sean is bringing a lot of humor to the role."

Moss and Kanan aren't the only newcomers sailing into THE BAY this season! Judi Evans (Adrienne, DAYS) will play Katherine, John's wife, and Patrika Darbo (ex-Nancy, DAYS) has been cast as Mickey, who runs Patrick's Roadhouse.

Watch for an exclusive preview of THE BAY featuring interviews with Martin, Mary Beth Evans (Sara; Kayla, DAYS) and Terri Ivens (Orchid; Simone, ALL MY CHILDREN) in the next two issues of In Depth, on sale Monday, April 21, and Monday, April 28. Chapter 12 of THE BAY streams via the Blip and Roku networks and services beginning Thursday, May 1. For more information, visit www.thebaytheseries.com.

B&B's Wagner CALLS THE HEART

JackWagnerHeart.jpg

There's new romance brewing on Hallmark Channel's period drama WHEN CALLS THE HEART: Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GENERAL HOSPITAL) has joined the cast as Mountie Forensic Investigator Bill Avery, and he's bringing the heat! First introduced in last week's episode, Avery arrived on horseback to find out the truth about the deadly explosion in Coal Valley that killed many of the locals, including the husband and son of Abigail Stanton (played by EDGE OF NIGHT's Lori Loughlin, Jody). Might Wagner's character help the shaky widow find her footing? Behind the scenes, it was the other way around. "Lori's an old friend, and a terrific actress," Wagner confides of his scene partner and pal on the Vancouver set. "I play golf with her husband and we've run in the same circles for years."

In "Prelude To A Kiss," the season finale airing Saturday, March 29, at 9:00 p.m. EST, Wagner's character will be back to further pursue Abigail while at the same time, delving deeper into the dangerous mystery. "My character gets beat up while he's at the crime scene by some masked men," Wagner reveals. "So it unfolds to be a real good versus evil situation."

With the fate of the town, as well as Abigail's family name, on the line, the evidence that Avery has collected becomes all-important. Who will triumph? Abigail pins her hope on the visiting Circuit Judge Jedidiah Black (James Brolin), but will she be able to continue living in the small town — let alone find love again — in the aftermath? "They leave the show with cliffhangers," Wagner says of the possibility of his return. "So hopefully Hallmark will pick it up for a second season!"
