The Original Sally Spectra on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL — Her Life and Legacy

The return of the Spectra family to THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL has some newer fans wondering about the original Sally Spectra and the legacy she left behind on the soap! Darlene Conley originated the role back in 1989 and played the brassy redhead until 2006 when the character was written off B&B.

Sally ran Spectra Fashions with her daughter, Macy Alexander, receptionist Darla Einstein, and tailor Saul Feinberg. They were a knock-off business, stealing ideas and designs from other designers, including Forrester. Sally blackmailed Clarke Garrison into designing for Spectra, and the two eventually fell in love, and had a son, C.J. Unfortunately, the warnings that Clarke was only after her business turned out to be true as she caught him with Kristen Forrester and filed for divorce.

Sally was mad about Eric Forrester and often crashed various Forrester events, much to the chagrin of his long-suffering wife, Stephanie. She was also involved with the Forrester family because both Macy and Darla were married to Thorne at different times over the years. Ultimately, Sally and Stephanie reached a detente and came to mutually respect each other. Sadly, Spectra Fashions ultimately couldn’t compete with Forrester and went out of business, leaving Sally working as Forrester’s new receptionist!

Sally was last seen in November of 2006, and her portrayer, Conley, passed away on January 7, 2007. The character wasn’t mentioned on B&B for quite a while, but finally, C.J. revealed to Clarke — and the audience — that Sally was living it up in a series of European locales with various cabana boys. Out of respect for Conley’s contribution to the soap, B&B opted not to kill off the character but to let her live happily ever after.
