Kristoff St. John Prepares For Emmy Night

Tags:

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Kristoff St. John (Neil) missed seeing his name announced live on television for his nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor! “I thought I’d find out today on THE TALK,” he says, “but then I heard it came out East Coast time.”

The actor was also taking the nod with a grain of salt. “I’ve been in the business a long time,” St. John muses, “and it is a wonderful feeling to be part of the elite pack, but the truth is all the actors and actresses, the people who work behind the scenes, we’re all doing it for the same reason. We’re all part of that elite group, but for this brief shining moment, there are five in a category and one will be singled out and be able to hold the gold trophy.”

While St. John had lots of good material to choose from, he earned his nod with the episode where Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm) returned for a brief visit. “The second one I considered as well,” he admits, “but I thought the first one had a little bit more meat and substance to it. There was a consistent, steady back and forth between these two brothers, and I felt it had a better chance than the other episodes.”

Although thrilled for his fellow co-workers who are also in the running for awards, St. John confesses he’s surprised his on-screen son isn’t with them. “I’m very disappointed that Bryton [James, Devon] didn’t get a nomination after he did such really raw, moving emotional work last year.”

A two-time Emmy winner, St. John says he’s never prepared an acceptance speech in advance. “I’m going to cast my fate to the wind,” he declares, “and if I should be so lucky and walk up on that stage… we’ll see what happens. I’m in a tough category. I’m honored to be invited to the dance!”
