Heather Tom Directs Her First Episode Of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL

Heather Tom doesn’t just play Katie on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL — now she’s directing the soap!

The Emmy-winning actress directed her very first full-length episode of B&B, which aired today, January 5. “I’ve been on daytime for 25 years and I should know how to do this,” she told Soaps In Depth. “This is silly that I don’t know how to do these other aspects of what we do.

“Yeah, the business has changed and you have to be flexible,” she adds. “You look at how the business is changing and think, ‘Okay, well, there is a lot of need right now for female directors, so maybe this is something I should be exploring and at least treat this as a learning place.’”

As for whether or not executive producer/head writer Bradley Bell would allow her to helm more episodes of the soap, she remains hopeful. “That’s the plan,” Tom confides. “Obviously Brad has to like it and it can’t be one of those things where I take too much time.

“I have to be able to function like the other directors,” she concludes. “I think as long as I can do that, then the implication is there will be other opportunities.”
