Diamont’s Son Takes The Field!

Tags:

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Don Diamont (Bill) will be in Bloomington, Indiana this weekend to cheer on his son, Alexander, when he takes the field as starting quarterback for the University of Indiana Hoosiers in a game against eighth-ranked Michigan State!

The actor says his son’s college football debut took everyone completely by surprise. The team had hoped to “redshirt” Alexander (who goes by “Zander”) this season [meaning not playing him to ensure that the freshman would be eligible for four subsequent years], but recent injuries to two other Hoosier quarterbacks forced coach Kevin Wilson’s hand.

“Here we go, it’s batter up, as they say,” notes Diamont, jokingly mixing his sports metaphors. “Alexander is now the starting quarterback for the Hoosiers as a true freshman.”

Though it’s undoubtedly a lot of pressure to step in for the first time against a team that’s ranked number one, defensively, in the Big Ten, Diamont says he knows his son will more than rise to the challenge. “I have a belief in my son, and I get emotional even saying it,” Diamont tells In Depth with a faltering voice. “I just know he’s going to go out there and compete his heart out. I think he’ll show flashes of greatness, and he may make some mistakes, but he’s going to be fiercely competitive. He will leave it all out there and give it everything he’s got.”

The game will be televised on Saturday, October 18, at 3:30 p.m. EST on ESPN, and you may even catch a glimpse of the actor in the broadcast if things go well for the rookie quarterback. “I cry every time I say this,” says Diamont, “but Alexander did say to me ‘Daddy, when I throw a touchdown, make sure you get down by the railing — because I’m going to hand the ball to you.'”
