Daytime alum Greg Vaughan (ex-Eric, DAYS OF OUR LIVES; ex-Diego, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS; ex-Lucky, GENERAL HOSPITAL) was celebrating on Twitter by sharing news that his new series, QUEEN SUGAR, has already been picked up for a second season before its first has even debuted!
From award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay and executive producer Oprah Winfrey, QUEEN SUGAR stars familiar daytime faces Vaughan, Dondré Whitfield (Terrence, ALL MY CHILDREN) and True O’Brien (ex-Paige, DAYS). An extended trailer was recently released where you can see Vaughan as Calvin, the lover of Nova, played by TRUE BLOOD’s Rutina Wesley.
According to The Hollywood Reporter OWN has already renewed the show for a sophomore season as well as extending the first season by three additional episodes.
“When we saw the first cut from Ava we knew right away that we wanted a second season,” said OWN president Erik Logan.
“Tremendously honored and proud to be in the company of such beauty, strength and leadership,” Vaughan tweeted when he was first cast on the series.
QUEEN SUGAR premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 p.m. ET on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, so mark your calendars!
