Look Out Ridge -- Here Comes Thomas!

PiersonFodeThomas.jpg

Pierson Fodé debuts on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL today, Monday, July 27 in the role of Thomas, last portrayed by Adam Gregory in 2014.

"Who's ready for Thomas Forrester? I know I am!" tweeted the daytime newcomer, who also stars with Victoria Justice in the film adaptation of the YA novel, Naomi & Ely's No Kiss List, which premiered this month in L.A. (Viewers may also recognize Fodé from the Disney series JESSIE, on which he plays a recurring love interest of the title character.)

Thomas has been living in Paris working at Forrester International in recent years, but he returns to L.A. with new ambitions that might not sit so well with his father, Ridge, and which could put his former flame, Caroline, in a rather awkward position! Do Thomas's romantic "designs" include more than the sketches in his drawing pad?

Diamont's Mission: Make 'Em Laugh

DonDiamontGal.jpg THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Don Diamont knows his alter ego, Bill, can be crass, cocky, impudent and arrogant, but does he make you laugh? If so, then the actor is confident he's doing his job right.

"I recently got a text from my cousin saying that a friend of hers on Facebook told her she laughed-out-loud at my scene," he says. "I think that's why audiences love Bill. He's entertaining, he's fun, and he brings everybody in on the joke. He's very multi-dimensional in that way." Diamont recently chatted with Soaps In Depth about how humor is the most important component of his character, and why it makes him immune, in many ways, from being boxed into storyline corners — a fate that can sometimes befall other daytime villains.

"Bill just really has fun messing with people," the actor says with a chuckle. "I see him as a sort of pirate, but the pirate that people love. He's an antihero."

Check out the latest issue, on sale now, to find out which legendary characters in film and television history have inspired Diamont's portrayal. (We guarantee a few will surprise you!)

Thorne Comes Home To A Crisis!

WinsorHarmon.jpg

After more than a year away, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Thorne returns on Thursday, July 23, to discover that while he's been holding down the Forrester fashion fort in Paris, his daughter, Aly, has been spiraling out of control!

B&B vet Winsor Harmon (Thorne) tells Soaps In Depth he's thrilled to be back for such an emotionally intense storyline. "Thorne has been living in Paris running International," explains the actor. "While he generally knows what's been going on at Forrester on a day-to-day basis, as far as personal things relating to his family, he's not fully aware of what's been happening."

Aly's erratic (some might say psychotic) behavior in recent weeks is something Thorne's going to have to deal with as a concerned father, but exactly how he'll help resolve his daughter's troubling behavior remains to be seen. "It all stems from her issues with Taylor," he explains. "Aly's always going to have issues surrounding the death of her mother, and Thorne is going to have to keep close tabs on that."

Thorne's homecoming, consequently, isn't likely to be a happy one, but Harmon says reprising the character has been nothing short of amazing. "B&B has been my home for eighteen years, and that's not something that's easy to walk away from or turn your back on," he says. "I never take it for granted. It's always a privilege to be involved with this show, and I'm smart enough to appreciate it!"

A "Million" Reasons Bring Chappell Back To DAYS!

CrystalChappelGal.jpg

In the upcoming film, A Million Happy Nows, Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GUIDING LIGHT; ex-Carly, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) stars as Lainey Allen, a popular soap opera actress, who exits her daytime drama after finding out she has early-onset Alzheimer's disease. She and her publicist/partner Eva, played by Jessica Leccia (Natalia, GL) move to a beach house overlooking the Pacific Ocean as the couple deals with the devastating diagnosis. Chappell, who also serves as a producer on the project, says the film's soap opera scenes were shot late last year at her old stomping grounds — the DAYS studios in Burbank!

"First, we were going to build a soap opera studio in another studio, but I told [DAYS' co-executive producer] Greg Meng about this film and that I needed a studio," the Emmy-winning actress/producer tells Soaps In Depth. Another co-executive producer of DAYS, Albert Alarr, directed the film, and was helpful in securing the studio space, too. "It was totally fun shooting there," Chappell declares. "Everyone was so accommodating. We could have shot it elsewhere, but filming at DAYS gave us an authentic vibe."

A Million Happy Nows both sheds a light on Alzheimer's and tells the love story of how Lainey and Eva deal with this tragic twist of fate, which, it turns out Lainey knew there was a 50/50 chance of happening. The film's cast is jam-packed with familiar faces from the soap opera world including Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie, DAYS; ex-Joanna, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Robert Gant (David, Y&R), Hillary B. Smith (ex-Stacy, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL; Margo, AS THE WORLD TURNS), and Michael Corbett (ex-David, Y&R).

"We needed someone to play Lainey's rival and someone suggested Susan," says Chappell. "I reached out to her and she said yes. We did some good old soapy catfight scenes that you'll see. It was so much fun. She is so talented."

As a fan of GL's "Otalia" storyline, the film's writer, Marisa Calin, specifically wrote the movie with Chappell and Leccia in mind. "That's really flattering," notes Chappell. "It's important to not only bring more awareness to this disease, but to also show that it can [afflict] same sex couples."

Stay tuned for an upcoming feature on Chappell in the magazine for more on the project, but In the meantime, you can check out a preview of the film here.

Welcome To Candy Land

MarthaMadisonHS.jpg

In the whimsical new Internet drama, WINTERTHORNE (premiering Thursday, August 27) star Martha Madison (ex-Belle, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) is set to find herself in some truly sticky situations -- and they don't come from the sweet treats that her powerful clan makes. "The family [and its business] is run by its women, and they've reached a crossroads," explains creator Michael Caruso (DEVANITY), who also plays Madison's husband, Victor, in the show. "Martha's complicated character, Miranda, is taking over, and we'll see over the course of four episodes where she started from and some of the good and not-so-good choices she's made in order to control her family."

Look for Madison to turn in the kind of dark performances that match her gothic wardrobe and to play opposite fellow soap veterans Kevin Spirtas (ex-Craig, DAYS), GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and Kathleen Gati (Obrecht), Linda Gray (ex-Priscilla, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), Gordon Thompson (DYNASTY), and John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex, ONE LIFE TO LIVE).

B&B's Zende Makes A Fresh Start

RomeFlynn.jpg

Having been living in Miami with his parents, Kristen and Tony, in recent years THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Zende returned to L.A. on Monday, June 29. Actor Rome Flynn says his alter ego will make a cautious foray into the family business when he applies for an internship at Forrester Creations. Though he's connected to the company's top brass, he'll be reluctant to name-drop on his first day in town.

"He's one of those guys that likes to get it done without using the clout of his name," Flynn explains. "I'd describe him as reserved. He speaks when he needs to. It's not that he doesn't have opinions, but he knows when not to talk. He's definitely wise beyond his years."

Eric's grandson gained a preternatural wisdom and maturity as a result of being orphaned in Africa when AIDS claimed the lives of his biological parents. Flynn agrees that the character's early history (prior to his adoption by Kristen and Tony at age 10) makes him more introspective than many of his outspoken relatives. "There's still a lot of pain there," he says of his childhood. "It's still very present on his mind."

Soap opera veteran Adrienne Frantz (ex-Amber, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL/THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and her husband, Scott Bailey (Sandy, GUIDING LIGHT) have announced that they are expecting, and they did it in the cutest way, with a candid YouTube video. "Yes, I'm pregnant!" Frantz confirms excitedly.

But what prompted the video? "I was watching a commercial," Frantz explains. "It was about what you should know before becoming a parent and I started sobbing profusely." Bailey was so taken by his wife's intense reaction that he couldn't resist recording it. "After the struggle we've had trying to have a child, we thought we might just post the video as our way of showing people that yep, we're gonna have a baby."

"At first, I wasn't too thrilled because I thought he was making fun of me," Frantz admits. "But at the same time, you've gotta be able to laugh at yourself, and it was funny. Life is an adventure that way." Now safely into her second trimester, Frantz says that she's feeling well and that they are both eagerly anticipating their daughter's December 1 due date. In fact, after decades of correspondence, the Emmy winner regards many fans as friends. "My house is filled with things that they've sent," he shares. "The latest example is with my dad's passing, I've got pictures that they've taken off of the Internet of me and my dad, and the lyrics of Rick Springfield's song, 'My Father's Chair,' in a beautiful presentation...They share in your pain and they share in your joy, and for that I feel compelled to walk the extra mile!"

Exlcusive: Details On New SudsvilleTV Show!

OLearySudsville.jpg

Two days after SudsvilleTV announced that Michael O'Leary (Rick, GUIDING LIGHT) would be hosting one of the game shows on the new Internet channel, Soaps In Depth has learned that the fan favorite is getting his name built in to the program, too!

SudsvilleTV creator Meg Kelly tells In Depth that O'Leary is so thrilled about the concept of the game show, that she and her partner, Joseph Craig, decided to add his name to the title and it will now be called MICHAEL'S AMAZING SOAP TRIVIA CHALLENGE! "We couldn't be happier that Michael is part of the SudsvilleTV family," says Kelly.

O'Leary adds that the concept of the trivia show is "fresh and fun. Fans will love the fast pace, the surprises and the big cash prizes."

One of the Emmy nominee's favorite aspect to the program is how fans will be included. "I love that they not only get to nominate friends and family to be contestants, but that they get to review and vote on the selected submissions," he says. "Daytime fans are the best and I'm excited to be connecting with them again. They gave me a great job for years and a lot of joy. When I meet them, they often say, "Oh my God, you've been a part of my family.' I get it, because they've been a part of mine."

If you haven't already, head over to www.SudsvilleTV.com to sign up for alerts, sneak previews and the chance to enter some cool contests!

KarlaMosleyGal.jpg

Maya's story is about to get even more dramatic now that THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL has cast the parents who rejected her. TV Insider broke the news that Anna Maria Horsford and Obba Babatundé will be playing Vivienne and Julius Avant.

Horsford is best known for her work on AMEN and THE SHIELD, and got her start with a role on GUIDING LIGHT as Clara in 1979. And you might recognize Babatundé from DAWSON'S CREEK or his voice from a number of animated series. He also had a stint on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS as Carter in 2007.

Horsford is scheduled to make her first appearance on Friday, July 3, followed by Babatundé on Thursday, July 9. How will Vivienne and Julius react when they meet Maya for the very first time and see what their son Myron has become?

New On-Line Soap Network Coming Soon!

SudsvilleLogo.jpg

Later this fall, there will be a new Web site completely dedicated to daytime fans! Veteran soap scribe Meg Kelly (who has written for AS THE WORLD TURNS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES) and entertainment marketing pro Joseph Craig have partnered with Conklin-Intracom to create SudsvilleTV.com.

Kelly tells Soaps In Depth that both she and Craig believe "that you can deliver a strong production for not a ton of money. If it's well-written, well-acted and smartly produced, you can deliver high-end entertainment."

To that end, SudsvilleTV plans to offer more than a dozen shows when the channel launches in late October. "I've created 16 shows for our new network, all 10 episodes each and a lot of fun," shares Craig, who has experience as both a movie and Broadway producer. "We have two game shows, a talk show called A.M. SUDSVILLE that will be three times a week, and then a mix of reality and improv shows. They are all themed around things that our soap audience really loves."

Craig adds that they are in the midst of casting all of the shows now, including a 40-episode series that Kelly is penning. Starting today, fans can sign up at www.sudsvilletv.com to get alerts about the upcoming programs -- including exclusive casting news and previews! "We're very excited about it," says Kelly, promising that there will be some familiar faces from the world of daytime attached to the SudsvilleTV shows, like GUIDING LIGHT fan favorite Michael O'Leary (Rick), who will be hosting THE AMAZING SOAP TRIVIA CHALLENGE game show! "We want to take soap operas to the next place."

Once fans have signed up, they will get alerts to all new Sudsville developments, as they happen: casting, special previews, interviews from the sets, behind the scenes footage. And fans will also be able to enter contests to win great prizes! You can also follow SudsvilleTV on Facebook and Twitter.

No Moss Under His Feet!

Ronn_Moss61894.jpg

If you've been missing seeing THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Ronn Moss (ex-Ridge) on your screen, now's your chance to see him in person! The multi-talented performer is hitting the road this summer with his band, Player (best known for their 1977 hit, "Baby Come Back") as part of the Rock The Yacht 2015 tour.

"We've combined Player with Ambrosia, Little River Band, Robbie Dupree and Stephen Bishop," he reveals. "It's the kind of relaxing music you'd listen to if you were cruising." But don't expect the crowd for this bill of 70s artists to be full of baby boomers alone — Moss says it's more of a mixed bunch. "People bring their kids, and they love it too," he offers. "My daughter is 16, and she plays the old rock 'n roll stuff as much as anything."

Also this summer, Moss is headed first to Europe and then to US clubs where he'll be performing with two of his former Player band mates as the more melodic group, Ronn Moss And The Muscle. "What we're going for," he explains, "is a real musical, intimate, coffeehouse atmosphere." It's been nine years since Moss released his solo album, Uncovered. If you've forgotten how great he sounds, check out the music video below that he made for his Web drama, THE BAY using his song, "You're My Addiction." For more news about Moss, look for his upcoming Keeping Track feature in Soaps In Depth.

St. John Brings Lawsuit

KristoffStJohn.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Kristoff St. John (Neil) and his ex-wife, Mia, this week filed a lawsuit against La Casa Psychiatric Health Facility claiming that their negligence led to the death of their son, Julian.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, St. John opened up about the loss of his son and his belief that the Long Beach, CA, facility regularly skipped mandatory check-ins and observations of Julian and that employees falsified documents to cover up their alleged neglect.

Following an earlier suicide attempt, Julian was supposed to be checked on every 15 minutes, but St. John alleges that surveillance footage shows that no one checked on his son for almost an hour before they found him unconscious. The suit also alleges that the staff did not react to the discovery in an appropriate way, not treating it as an emergency. "How do you not call 911 immediately?" the actor asked in the interview.

St. John hopes that this case will shed light on the lack of proper care in mental hospitals nationwide, and as well as bringing justice for his son's death, help other struggling patients experiencing inadequate care.

Send Me An "Angel"

FrankRunyeonYR.jpg

Frank Runyeon (Steve, AS THE WORLD TURNS) makes his THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS debut as a helpful character named Angel on Thursday, May 28 . The soap vet says he received an invitation to play the spiritual force who interacts with Nikki and Victor from Y&R's executive producer/headwriter, Charles Pratt, Jr., who was his former boss on SANTA BARBARA, where he played Michael.

"It's always fun to come in and do this stuff," Runyeon tells Soaps In Depth. "Chuck comes up with something and says 'How am I going to get anyone to do this? Then he goes, 'Oh, I bet Frank can do this!' It's always fun."

Ironically, Runyeon was given the dressing room belonging to his former ATWT co-star Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael; Kirk, ATWT) during his brief visit to Genoa City. "I knew Eric Braeden (Victor) from the Daytime Emmys, and I knew Peter Bergman (Jack) back in New York from ALL MY CHILDREN [where he played Cliff]."

In addition to touring across the country in religious shows, Runyeon is writing his autobiography that has the working title Escape From Hollywood: An Actor's Journey to Faith. "It's the story of my life," he says. To learn more about Runyeon's work, check out his Web site www.frankrunyeon.com.
