Correction!

RenaSofer.jpg

In the current issue of CBS Soaps In Depth on sale now, there is some incorrect information in our annual Holiday Gift Guide. It says that when ordering the Amorra Candles, you can also request a free autographed photo of Rena Sofer (Quinn, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL). Unfortunately, that is not the case. You can still order the actress' scented skin care candles at www.amorrabeauty.com, but for an 8x10 glossy of Sofer, you'll have to go through the soap!

Simply send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your photo request to:
Rena Sofer

7800 Beverly Blvd.

Los Angeles, CA 90036

We apologize for the error and any confusion it may have caused!

The 2015 Daytime Emmys Are In April!

EmmyTrophies.jpg

Mark your calendars: The ceremony for the 2015 Daytime Emmy Awards has been scheduled for Sunday, April 26! The deadline for performer pre-nomination clips to be submitted will be Friday, November 28, and the final nominations will be announced on Tuesday, March 26.

There have been some new categories added, one of which is Guest Performer in a Drama Series, which should include high-profile-but-short-term actors like GENERAL HOSPITAL's Donna Mills (Madeline) and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Ray Wise (Ian).

At this time there have been no details released regarding how the 2015 Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast, but it will likely be via the Internet as they were this year. (Although hopefully with a better pre-show!)

So who do you think should start putting together Emmy reels for a nomination? Sound off in the comments!

Wood Clarifies Status With B&B

JacquelineMacInnesWood.jpg

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood knows how many THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL fans are itching to see her back on the soap as Steffy, so she took to Facebook to let them know what the deal is. "As much as I love B&B and still wanted to be a part of it," she wrote, "unfortunately we weren't on the same page contractually/scheduling/etc.

"These things happen in this industry," Wood continued, "and I hope all my fans can understand that. I am a huge supporter of [B&B executive producer/headwriter] Brad Bell and the entire cast and crew. Love and kisses to all of my fans. I really do care about you all."

However, as with many soap stars, Wood also admits the book isn't entirely closed. "Hey! If characters an be recast, shot, fall down elevator shafts and come back to life months/years later, then never say never!" she adds. "Love you all and will definitely keep you posted on future projects."

There are reports that B&B is currently casting for a female in Steffy's age range, so a recast could be on the horizon. How would you feel about that? Sound off in the comments!

FOREVER Could Be A Long Time For B&B's Mauzy

MauzyForever.jpg

Broadway's loss is ABC's gain this season — MacKenzie Mauzy's run on FOREVER is continuing on. The theater actress who got her start playing a teenaged and often lovelorn Phoebe on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL is currently having the time of her life as Abigail, the love of medical examiner Henry Morgan's life on ABC's hit drama.

In the story, Henry has the particular conundrum of not being able to die, unlike Abigail — the beautiful British nurse whom the doctor met during WWII — who merely lives on in his memory. "She found baby Abe [who is now older than Henry] in a concentration camp, rescued him and brought him to Henry," Mauzy explains. "They fell in love with the baby and made a little family together."

In "New York Kids," the episode airing Tuesday, October 28, at 10:00 p.m. ET, Mauzy's character will be remembered again, resulting in a deeper understanding of Henry's past. "They will be introducing another character, which is a younger version of Judd Hirsch [who plays adult Abe] but an older version of the baby. So it gives a window into their life together in New York and raising Abe," Mauzy relates. "And it'll show Abigail's dynamic of really pressing Henry to take time off work to take Abe to his game..." How might Henry's memory of juggling his priorities in the past affect the way he handles his current case? Tune in to find out!

In addition to the fun of wearing 1950s costuming, Mauzy is enjoying playing off of charming Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd and developing their characters' relationship. "Abigail is full of energy, light and humor and always tries to counteract Henry's [tendency] to get very pensive and serious," insists the actress who has more episodes ahead. "I think she's a good balance for him." For more from Mauzy, including the scoop on her exciting new role as Rapunzel — opposite Meryl Streep! — in Disney's movie musical, Into The Woods, check out her Keeping Track feature in an upcoming issue of CBS Soaps In Depth!

DAYS' Shipp Is Beating A New Drum!

DrumlineAD.jpg

Alexandra Shipp plays DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Marybeth as an opinionated teen for whom the world is black and white. Now, she's portraying another headstrong spirit in VH1's Drumline 2: A New Beat, the sequel to the 2002 romantic comedy that changed the way people view the world of marching bands.

"I play Dani," Shipp reveals of her starring role as girl from an upper crust family in Brooklyn, NY. "She's a drummer who wants to follow her cousin to A&T University in Atlanta, but her parents really want her to go to a different college and not study music." Of course, the heart knows what it wants, and Dani's got rhythm in her blood. "She does goes to A&T and tries to get on the drumline as the first female section leader — craziness ensues," Shipp previews. "It's all about girl power in this movie. It's about bridging the gap."

Acting in this movie was the easy part for Shipp, who enjoyed being on set with producer Nick Cannon (who returns for a cameo appearance as Devon Miles) and Letoya Luckett (who plays the school's dean). However, actually shooting it was another story. "We were on football fields in 90-degree heat plus humidity in Atlanta," Shipp laughs, adding, "and I was in a three-piece cotton [band uniform] with a 35-lb. metal drum on my hip!"

Not only did the actress learn to march for this role, she actually had to learn how to play. "In the first movie, Drumline, they had about six months to learn the drums, but for our movie, we had two weeks," she reveals. "So every day we were learning patterns and figuring out hand twirls with sticks and stuff like that. It was pretty strenuous, but I walked away with some pretty slick drumming moves!"

Tune in to VH1 to see Shipp in action on Monday, October 27, at 9:00 p.m. ET. For more from the actress, including the details on her starring role in Lifetime's upcoming biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, don't miss the issue of CBS Soaps In Depth on sale Monday, November 3!

EXCLUSIVE: Grace Is Coming Back Again!

Jennifer Gareis (Donna, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) is once more returning to Genoa City as Grace Turner! The actress, who reprised her role as Nick's naughty ex-lover in August, will pop back up on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS on Thursday, November 13. The buzz is that Gareis' summer appearance on Y&R was so successful that the show extended another invitation to the actress, who currently recurs on sister soap B&B. "I love playing bad girls," Gareis has told In Depth. "It's just so much fun because you never know what they're going to do next! They're always conniving and manipulative." Diamont's Son Takes The Field!

DonDiamontAlexander.jpg

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Don Diamont (Bill) will be in Bloomington, Indiana this weekend to cheer on his son, Alexander, when he takes the field as starting quarterback for the University of Indiana Hoosiers in a game against eighth-ranked Michigan State!

The actor says his son's college football debut took everyone completely by surprise. The team had hoped to "redshirt" Alexander (who goes by "Zander") this season [meaning not playing him to ensure that the freshman would be eligible for four subsequent years], but recent injuries to two other Hoosier quarterbacks forced coach Kevin Wilson's hand.

"Here we go, it's batter up, as they say," notes Diamont, jokingly mixing his sports metaphors. "Alexander is now the starting quarterback for the Hoosiers as a true freshman."

Though it's undoubtedly a lot of pressure to step in for the first time against a team that's ranked number one, defensively, in the Big Ten, Diamont says he knows his son will more than rise to the challenge. "I have a belief in my son, and I get emotional even saying it," Diamont tells In Depth with a faltering voice. "I just know he's going to go out there and compete his heart out. I think he'll show flashes of greatness, and he may make some mistakes, but he's going to be fiercely competitive. He will leave it all out there and give it everything he's got."

The game will be televised on Saturday, October 18, at 3:30 p.m. EST on ESPN, and you may even catch a glimpse of the actor in the broadcast if things go well for the rookie quarterback. "I cry every time I say this," says Diamont, "but Alexander did say to me 'Daddy, when I throw a touchdown, make sure you get down by the railing — because I'm going to hand the ball to you.'"

Rowell Finds Deadly Romance

Victoria_Rowell02318.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla) had a frightfully good time making her upcoming film, Mirror, Mirror for TV One. "It's three movies -- a trilogy called The Fright Night Files -- and I'm in one of them," she tells Soaps In Depth. "I star opposite THE BLACKLIST's Harry Lennix as his love interest."

Actually, Rowell portrays one of two ladies in the charismatic man's life. He already had a live-in girlfriend named Jessica (played by Rowell's former Y&R daughter, Davetta Sherwood, ex-Lily) who's more than a bit unhappy with him. Upon arriving home to find Jessica performing a strange ritual with a friend, the creeped out guy will have a decision to make. Will the unique mirror that she gives him change his outlook? Tune in on Saturday, October 18, at 8 p.m. EST to find out!

Reunited!
If the chemistry between Rowell and Lennix seems easy, there's a good reason for it. "This is like our fourth project. He was my love interest [Agent Ron Wagner] on DIAGNOSIS MURDER," Rowell reveals. "And I starred in a movie last year that he's producing -- it's still being edited."

What else is ahead for the popular star? Also on Saturday, October 18, she'll be the keynote speaker at the St. Agnes Home's [http://stagneshome.org] Centennial Celebration at the Marriott hotel in Hartford, CT. UPDATE: ATWT Star Books Plum Primetime Part!

MichaelPark.jpg

AS THE WORLD TURNS' fan favorite Michael Park (Jack) has landed a three-episode arc on NBC's CHICAGO P.D. Speaking to Soaps In Depth directly from the Windy City where the series is produced, Park shares the details about his exciting new role, which begins airing Wednesday, October 15, at 10 p.m.

"Asher is a diamond dealer who hires Antonio Dawson, John Seda's character, to work private security for him," Park reveals. "He's a bit of a rough guy -- he's rough on his wife -- and Dawson is not used to taking orders from someone of my background, so there will be some tension there between the two of them for sure."

While Park did not get to work with fellow ATWT alum Jesse Lee Soffer (Will), who plays brash detective Jay Halstead on the drama, they did discover that they share yet another connection. "India de Beaufort (ONE TREE HILL) plays my wife in this, and she's wonderful," Park reveals. "She and Jesse know each other very well, so India and I got to know each other through that one degree of separation."

In other great news, Park has begun rehearsals for NBC's upcoming production of Peter Pan Live as Cecco, a pirate who will be a member of Captain Hook's (played by Christopher Walken) crew. The beloved musical is scheduled to air Thursday, December 4, at 8 p.m. EST. For more from the star, look for his upcoming Keeping Track feature in Soaps In Depth.

John Wesley Shipp Previews THE FLASH

ShippFlash.jpg

Tonight is going to be déjà vu all over again for John Wesley Shipp (Kelly, GUIDING LIGHT; Douglas, AS THE WORLD TURNS) when THE FLASH debuts on The CW at 8:00 p.m. EST. The two-time Emmy winner, who played the title role in the primetime series about the DC Comics character that ran (get it? "ran?") from 1990-91 on CBS, is appearing in the new series, but in a slightly different role.

Are there many similarities between soap opera fans and devotees of the superhero world? "That's a very interesting question," Shipp tells Soaps In Depth. "It's one I haven't been asked before so bravo! They are similar and, at times, an overlapping audience."

Shipp says that the series title character (aka Barry Allen), played by Grant Gustin, is an actor to watch. "He can do comedy, play a genius when Barry is analyzing a crime scene and then turn around and break your heart. He's got it all."

In this version of THE FLASH, Shipp is playing Barry's dad, Henry, who's been wrongly incarcerated for killing his wife. Watch for Shipp to recur throughout the season as Barry fights to clear his dad's name. "I've had scenes with Jesse L. Martin (Det. Joe West) whose character has drilled into Henry's son's head that his father was a killer. What will he do when he finds out that he was wrong?"

THE FLASH airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. EST on The CW, and you can read more about Shipp in the new issue of CBS Soaps In Depth, on newsstands now!

Funnyman Surprises The Forresters!

FredWillardBB.jpg

This week, fans of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL will finally be able to put a face to the name of Eric Forrester's occasionally-referenced, but never-before-seen brother, John, who also happens to be Ivy's pop. Comic actor Fred Willard drops by starting Thursday, October 2 for a three-episode arc that will conclude on Monday, October 6.

Though the actor is best known for his hilarious stints in films like Best In Show, Anchorman, and a recurring role on MODERN FAMILY, Willard says he's always been intrigued by the soap world, noting that he was once hooked on the seventies-era soap HOW TO SURVIVE A MARRIAGE. "That was a long time ago," he chuckles. "I started watching B&B when I found out I was going to be on, and I got very interested in the storyline."

Willard explains that John currently calls Australia home, but says his alter ego will find himself quite enamored with his brother's glamorous existence. "When he see where Eric works and the models he works with, I imagine he's quite envious," says Willard.

Look for John to also take a shine to Eric's in-law, Pam (which won't sit well with her current beau, Charlie!) "He can't help it," laughs Willard. "His wife's in Australia! But he's kind of a harmless guy."

Original Y&R Cast Member Returns Today!

TomHallickYR.jpg

Longtime fans of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS will get an extra treat today when they see the truck driver who gives Phyllis a ride into Genoa City. Her driver is played by none other than original cast member Tom Hallick, who played Brad Eliot. In Y&R's first episode on March 26, 1973, Hallick's character was the one who got a lift into town from a truck driver.

"I was shocked when Y&R called," Hallick tells Soaps In Depth before adding with a chuckle: "I don't know why they're making such a big deal out of it... It's for one episode!"

The actor was assigned the dressing room that belong to the late Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) during his brief return to the top-rated soap. "Jeanne and I had done a national tour of Plaza Suite," Hallick recalls. "We'd finish at Y&R at 4:00 p.m., get a 6:00 p.m. flight and then [do a performance]. That was a lot of fun. Jeanne was always the life of the party. I never had scenes with her on the show, but we'd see each other all the time."

Hallick's original character was named after Bradley Bell, the son of late Y&R creator William J. Bell. (Today, of course, Bradley Bell is the executive producer/headwriter of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL.) "I didn't get to see Brad while I was there, but I left him a note," Hallick says with a smile. Of William Bell Sr., Hallick fondly recalls, "I remember going up to his house on Lake Geneva [in Wisconsin]. We'd spend wonderful weekends there. He was a very talented man. I had a lot of respect for what he did."

Brad Eliot left town after his eyesight had been restored in the late '70s, while Hallick moved over to a development deal at NBC which led to his playing Maxwell Hathaway on DAYS OF OUR LIVES in 1984. Many of the people with whom Brad interacted in Genoa City are no longer part of the show's canvas, but his portrayer says he wouldn't mind doing more Y&R. "It'd be kind of fun to go back again in some capacity," he says.

EXCLUSIVE: Y&R Signs Atkinson To Contract!

Matthew_Atkinson26831.jpg

But a rep for the soap reveals to Soaps In Depth that Matthew Atkinson is now on contract, so Austin will be around for quite a while!

Do you think that Austin is redeemable? Are you excited he's sticking around Genoa City?

New Headwriter for Y&R!

yrlogo.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has made some on-screen changes recently with some high-profile recasts, and now there's going to be a major change behind the scenes. An insider at Y&R has confirmed that executive producer Jill Farren Phelps has hired Chuck Pratt as the new headwriter of the soap. He will also receive an executive producer credit, although Phelps will still reportedly be in charge.

Pratt is known for his scripting of primteime soaps MELROSE PLACE and MODELS, INC., but is best known in daytime circles for his work on SANTA BARBARA (also with Phelps as executive producer), SUNSET BEACH, GENERAL HOSPITAL and ALL MY CHILDREN.

At this time, we don't know exactly when Pratt is scheduled to start writing scripts for Y&R so we can't be sure when his work will be seen on screen. What do you think? Does Y&R need a new headwriter? Do you think Pratt is the right man for the job?

Quinn's Crazy... But She Could Be Right!

HopeQuinn.jpg

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Quinn is not the person we would look to for advice, generally speaking. However, she has made some pretty great points regarding Hope's dash down the aisle (or off the bow of a ship, as the case may be) with Wyatt. "You did what you wanted to," Quinn told Hope. "You accepted my son's proposal because you wanted to." As for the whole "Liam didn't show up when he said he'd be there" issue? Quinn declared, "You needed an excuse to marry the brother of your fiancée," adding that Liam's delay provided it. Do you think Quinn was right? If Liam had shown up, would Hope have found another reason to put off their marriage? Would she still have wound up with Wyatt? Or is Quinn just covering her own butt? Should the fact that Hope now knows the truth push her to leave Wyatt and reunite with Liam? Let's hear what you think!

WesRamseyDeliveranceCreek.jpg

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 13, at 8:00 p.m. EST, because you won't want to miss the world premiere of Lifetime's Deliverance Creek, the ambitious, first-ever television project produced by romance novelist Nicholas Sparks. In the Civil War-era drama, Wes Ramsey (Sam, GUIDING LIGHT; ex-Owen, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) stars as a small-town lawman that finds himself secretly involved with strong-willed, Missouri rancher (Lauren Ambrose) for whom the line between right and wrong is often blurred.

"It's about the story of her survival on the ranch [with her children]," Ramsey explains. "She hasn't heard from her husband in years, not a letter, and she thinks she's dead... We find each other at a time in our lives when we are both looking for something."

Y&R's McKenna Has A New STATE Of Mind!

Chris_McKenna28780.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Chris McKenna (Det. Harding) is about to do some moonlighting! The actor has landed a recurring gig on the upcoming NBC drama STATE OF AFFAIRS, in which Katherine Heigl plays a top advisor to Alfre Woodard's President of the United States.

McKenna plays Nick Vera, a CIA operator who provides Charleston Tucker (Heigl's character) with her first taste of the ugly business of on-the-ground intelligence gathering. A STATE rep adds that Nick's time in the field has had a strong impact on how he sees his work, politicians and the agency, adding that Nick has a "complex" relationship with Charlie.

But criminals in Genoa City should still be careful, because McKenna will continue to appear on Y&R! "For those concerned, NBC and CBS have been working together and so far [so] good on working out both schedules," the actor tweeted. A Y&R spokesperson tells Soaps In Depth that McKenna has upcoming shows that we'll see this fall. STATE OF AFFAIRS debuts on Wednesday, November 17, at 10:00 p.m. EST.
