EXCLUSIVE: Y&R's Morgan Is Expecting!

MishaelMorgan.jpg

Mishael Morgan (Hilary) tells Soaps In Depth exclusively that she and her husband are expecting their first child in August! "We were actually thinking about planning a family this year... and it happened a little earlier than we anticipated," she smiles. "But I'm the kind of person who wants things to happen when they're supposed to happen, and am open to it. So it was a happy blessing!"

At the moment, the actress doesn't know the sex of the baby. However, that will change in May when she flies home to Toronto for her baby shower, which she has combined with a baby reveal ceremony. "The only person that knows right now is my baker, who is baking me a cake," she shares with a laugh. "Inside it's going to tell me whether it's a girl or a boy, so when we cut the cake at the baby shower, we'll all find out together! I thought it would be a nice way to celebrate that moment when we are all together, because not everybody is going to be there when the baby is going to be born."

Morgan confesses that she and her husband would be thrilled if the inside of the cake turned out to be pink! "I do have a preference because I want my girl to be older than my son — so for that to happen, it has to be a girl!" she laughs. "When I was growing up, all the boys that I liked and was attracted to and who always treated women amazingly were the ones who had older sisters! So I wish my girl would be first, but it doesn't really matter. If I have a boy and he becomes an older brother to protect her, that's good, too! I'm just very excited!"

The actress' pregnancy will not be written into her storyline on Y&R, so look for Hilary's collection of oversized purses to expand in the near future!

How Scott Clifton Missed The Emmy Nominations!

ScottClifton.jpg

While everyone else in daytime was celebrating the Daytime Emmy nominations when they were announced on Tuesday, March 31, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Scott Clifton (Liam) was a little late learning he was once again up for Outstanding Supporting Actor!

"I actually didn't find out until a couple days later," he confides, "because I'd been on a camping trip in the woods. I'd even forgotten when the nominations were going to be announced! On my way back down the mountain, my phone picked up a signal and suddenly a barrage of congratulatory texts and voicemails hit me all at once. I couldn't ask for a better, more fun way to find out. What a perfect welcome home surprise!"

Although Clifton has been nominated before for both his work on B&B as well as GENERAL HOSPITAL and ONE LIFE TO LIVE — and taking home two trophies over the years — this year's nod means a lot to the actor. "The episode I submitted this year wasn't a strategic choice," he says, "as it didn't seem to fit any of the usual criteria — it wasn't necessarily the most realistic or emotional or nuanced — it's classic soap, like a choreographed dance.

"It's a performance I'm very proud of," Clifton continues, "and it tells a story about these two men and their relationship that really resonated with me both on the page, thanks to the poetic wisdom of [writer] Patrick Mulcahey and on the screen, thanks to the masterful precision of Darin Brooks (Wyatt). So to be nominated for this is such a reward, and I'm incredibly grateful."

Is Quinn Still Dangerous?

RenaSofer.jpg THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Rena Sofer (Quinn) relishes playing the soap's borderline sociopath, but is there more to this multi-faceted character than simply holding swords to people's throats? The actress certainly thinks so.

"The last thing I want to see is for her to actually murder somebody," says Sofer. "You can only go so far with that. Not that I want to see Quinn become 'good,' or 'nice' in any way, shape or form, but I think she really does strive to be better."

Striving is one thing, but can she really stay on the straight and narrow path, worried as she is about her fiancé Deacon's affiliation with his old flame, Brooke?

"In spite of trying, she is who she is, and she makes mistakes," Sofer coyly notes, "but I'd love to see some people give her the benefit of the doubt, and then maybe she can get into trouble in different ways. It doesn't always have to be about murder — even though she's definitely comfortable with that!"

Find out what else Sofer has to say about Quinn's world, and her own, by picking up the latest issue of Soaps In Depth, on sale now!

LeBlanc Can't Wait For Emmy Night!

LeBlanc8.jpg

Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy 10 times before this one — and taken home three of those trophies — but he insists that it never gets old!

"I'm amazed!" he enthuses. "It's a celebration for all of us. It's our business card. It's an interesting process. You hate it or you love it. If you're nominated, you're not by any means the best actor in the world or even of daytime. You are there celebrating the community of daytime along with the rest of your peers."

To earn the nod, LeBlanc submitted the episode where Michael tells Lauren he has cancer, but he forgot when the nominations were being announced and was actually at the gym when he got a text! "Steve Burton (Dylan) of all people, which was very sweet," he recalls. "And then it all came in a bunch [of texts]. I was on this running thing and I went flying into some gym class behind me to show everyone my text, 'Hey look!'"

He's also excited that the ceremony is being broadcast on television again, and from Warner Bros. Studio. "I think it's a brilliant idea!" LeBlanc smiles. "I like the old Hollywood aspect of it, I like having a long red carpet again. It will be interesting. It's a first. I was ready for something different. The red carpet [last year] was a [disaster] and we're trying to make it better. It's a historic soundstage. It's up to them to make a really great show."

Ehrich Reacts To Third Emmy Nod In A Row!

MaxEhrichGal.jpg

Max Ehrich (Fen, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) was in North Carolina shooting the primetime series UNDER THE DOME when the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced, so he was checking Twitter to see how Y&R fared in this year's contest! And when he was nominated for Outstanding Younger Actor, his DOME co-stars Mackenzie Lintz and Grace Victoria Cox were eager to share the good news!

"They went to set and must have told everyone," he recalls, "because when I came to set, they told the director Peter Weller, who is an Oscar nominee, it was a cool, surreal experience because he pulled me out and was like, 'Congratulations' and made a big announcement of it. It was very cool."

This is the third year in a row that Ehrich has been nominated in this category, but he insists you never get used to it. "Because there is such a high caliber that you are up against," he says. "I honestly had no idea what to expect. I already feel blessed to be doing what I love for a living, but to be recognized by my peers, that's what puts me on cloud nine."

Ehrich earned the nomination for the episode where Fen learned that his father, Michael, has cancer. "I did that scene because I know a lot of people, including myself, who have lost loved ones to cancer, and I thought it had a strong impact," he explains. "I felt really emotionally connected to those scenes, and finding out. Christian [Jules LeBlanc, Michael], Tracey [E. Bregman, Lauren] and Greg [Rikaart, Kevin] were all in those scenes, and everybody was outstanding. I feel like I owe it to them, because I was just reacting off of them."

And while LeBlanc is in the running for Lead Actor this year, Ehrich is disappointed Bregman didn't receive a nomination of her own. "I'm truly saddened by that," he declares, "because she's phenomenal as an actress and the scenes that she's had, they were amazing. She has my vote!"

Heinle Surprised Again By Emmy Nomination!

AmeliaHeinle.jpg

Amelia Heinle (Victoria, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is currently in the mountains of Georgia visiting her sister, so she found out she had been nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Supporting Actress category via a text message! "I'm so honored," she declares. "This is cool!"

Last year, the actress admitted to us she was surprised to earn the nomination that led to her eventual win because she didn't feel she had a lot of material to choose from, and this year seems no different for her. "I didn't know how the whole things works," Heinle confesses, "and now being involved in the process and voting and everything... this is my second year voting and I'm starting to understand how it works. This year I don't have a lot. the pickings were slim. So I'm even more surprised this year!"

To earn the nomination, Heinle submitted the show featuring the anniversary of Delia's death. "It was a complete show so I just picked that, because I couldn't find anything else," she admits. "When you look back at a body of work over a year, sometimes you have a lot of great work and sometimes you just have to listen to your instinct and what that tells you.

"I talked to [my husband] Thad [Luckinbill, ex-J.T.] about it," she adds, "and he picked something totally different. I was like, I am not submitting that!"

Heinle is thrilled to see former castmate Billy Miller (ex-Billy, now GENERAL HOSPITAL's Jake/Jason) earn a nod for his part in the Delia storyline as well as Elizabeth Hendrickson (ex-Chloe), even if they're competing in the same category again. "If she wins, I will be extremely happy," Heinle insists. "She did such a great job and she's such a sweet, sweet girl. And that was a tough competition last year. I'm shocked that I won. I thought she really deserved it!"

Hendrickson Returns To Y&R For Emmy Night!

ElizabethHendricksonGal.jpg

Elizabeth Hendrickson (ex-Chloe) hasn't appeared on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS since last May, but has earned herself a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the Supporting Actress category. "I was so close to not submitting," she confesses. "Because I was gone, I didn't know how that would be received. I never know how to deal with that. But I felt like my last year was my best year, so why not give it one more shot?"

The previous year, Hendrickson had submitted Chloe's reaction to the sudden death of her daughter, Delia, but this time the actress opted to submit her farewell episode. "I usually tend to submit on the lighter side, but this was my most honest work that I had of a full show," she says. "The Delia stuff was pretty much done with and I'd already been there, done that. It was really all about one scene with Greg [Rikaart, Kevin] and saying good-bye to him. I still get chills thinking about it. It was really fitting. Last year, last day, last submission."

Hendrickson is looking forward to seeing her old Y&R castmates again at the ceremony, and laments those who won't be joining her as an Emmy nominee. "I was bummed that [Greg] didn't submit," she confides. "I think everything he does is gold! I was really bummed not to see Missy [Melissa Claire Egan, Chelsea] get nominated. I was really proud to see her submit in lead actress. I think that was an awesome, bold, well-deserved move. So I was bummed not to see her up there, because I think she deserved it. You never know how these things work!"

B&B's Young Shares His Emmy Nomination

JacobYoungGal.jpg

Jacob Young (Rick, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) had set THE TALK to record so he could see the Daytime Emmy nominations, but he had the news of his own Supporting Actor nod spoiled by Twitter! "My curiosity killed the cat," he admits. "I was happy that I could follow along on Twitter. It's great, because on Twitter, you can see what people say."

And the actor insists that the nod is not just for him. "This nomination is everyone's," he declares. "All the people who worked with me. Everybody's been so fantastic, from John [McCook, Eric] to Thorsten [Kaye, Ridge] to Katherine [Kelly Lang, Brooke], too."

Naturally, Young submitted the episode where Maya dropped the bombshell about Ridge and Caroline to earn the nomination, and plans to submit the same episode for the final judging. "There's no reason to change it," he muses. "Let's go ahead and keep it. I'm happy it was the right episode. It's great to be nominated."

Of course, while actors from B&B can submit two half-hour episodes to equal the submissions from the actors on other soaps, he opted to just go with one. "It's nice to have that option," Young says, "but at the same time, if you don't have to... It's like presenting a sizzle reel — you don't want to bore the audience. Less is more, my friend!"

B&B's Godfrey Will Be At The Emmys!

LinseyGodfreyGall.jpg

Linsey Godfrey (Caroline, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) totally missed the announcement of the Daytime Emmy nominations because she was in physical therapy! "I got a call from [B&B executive producer and headwriter] Brad Bell," she recalls. "And then I got text messages from another producer. I checked my messages really quickly. They said 'Congratulations.'" She laughs and adds, "I said, 'For what?'"

Due to B&B being a half-hour soap, the actors were allowed to submit two episodes to make the same hour as the other shows, so she submitted the scenes where Rick found out that Caroline kissed Ridge. "I wanted to do a different episode, but it aired four days after the cut off!" she laments.

In fact, Godfrey wasn't really involved in what was submitted to the committee, since it occurred just after her accident where she was struck by a car. "I was in the hospital," she reveals. "I felt so bad they had to call and ask. I was not really paying attention. I was just like, 'Oh, I don't care. Just submit what you want!'"

With the ceremony coming up in less than a month, she's already looking at potential gowns, but isn't quite sure how well she'll be able to get around the venue. "I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to be out of these 'moon boots,'" Godfrey says. "I think I'll be out of at least one of them, but I'm hoping I'll be out of both. I don't think I'll be able to wear heels. I'm hoping my gowns are long enough that they cover my feet. But I'll feel so short!"

Kristoff St. John Prepares For Emmy Night

KristoffStJohn.jpg

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Kristoff St. John (Neil) missed seeing his name announced live on television for his nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor! "I thought I'd find out today on THE TALK," he says, "but then I heard it came out East Coast time."

The actor was also taking the nod with a grain of salt. "I've been in the business a long time," St. John muses, "and it is a wonderful feeling to be part of the elite pack, but the truth is all the actors and actresses, the people who work behind the scenes, we're all doing it for the same reason. We're all part of that elite group, but for this brief shining moment, there are five in a category and one will be singled out and be able to hold the gold trophy."

While St. John had lots of good material to choose from, he earned his nod with the episode where Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm) returned for a brief visit. "The second one I considered as well," he admits, "but I thought the first one had a little bit more meat and substance to it. There was a consistent, steady back and forth between these two brothers, and I felt it had a better chance than the other episodes."

Although thrilled for his fellow co-workers who are also in the running for awards, St. John confesses he's surprised his on-screen son isn't with them. "I'm very disappointed that Bryton [James, Devon] didn't get a nomination after he did such really raw, moving emotional work last year."

A two-time Emmy winner, St. John says he's never prepared an acceptance speech in advance. "I'm going to cast my fate to the wind," he declares, "and if I should be so lucky and walk up on that stage... we'll see what happens. I'm in a tough category. I'm honored to be invited to the dance!"

Y&R's Tognoni Reacts To Emmy Nom!

GinaTognoniGal.jpg

Gina Tognoni (Phyllis, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) was back home in New Jersey when the 2015 Daytime Emmy Award nominations were announced, and was reminded by her mother that morning to tune in to THE TALK for the announcement.

"I got myself situated, I was trying to eat my lunch," she recalls. "I'm telling you, I'm psyched at all the nominations. I'm psyched that Hunter King (Summer) got nominated. Christian [Jules LeBlanc, Michael]... it's a very nice year. I like the nominations!"

However, immediately after learning she had snagged a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress, Tognoni was unable to get ahold of her mother! "She won't pick up her phone!" the actress laughs. "I'm thinking, where are you now that I need you? But you know what she's probably doing? She's probably talking to all of her friends. My mom is the biggest cheerleader of my life. Both my parents are. But she really loves all this. She loves the show."

To earn the nomination, Tognoni submitted the scene with Peter Bergman (Jack) as Phyllis confronted Jack about Kelly. "Basically it was a scene about 'Did you love another woman? Did you fall for another woman?'" she says. "I just loved it. It was a well-written scene."

Tognoni is grateful for her good fortune this year, but disappointed that co-stars Bergman and Cady McClain (Kelly) didn't receive nods. "I was surprised because she's so good," she admits. "There were a few surprises. I'm surprised that Peter didn't get nominated. He's so celebrated and he really is a big part of why what I submitted I was so proud of, because he is so incredible to work with. You can't do it alone."

Y&R's King Gets Nasty!

HunterKingGal.jpg

On THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, Summer continues to be tormented by the mysterious murder of her hubby Austin, but her portrayer, Hunter King, takes on the role of tormentor in the big screen movie, A Girl Like Her, which opens nationwide in select theaters on Friday, March 27.

King portrays Avery, a teenager viciously bullying a former friend, Jessica (played by Lexi Ainsworth, GENERAL HOSPITAL's ex-Kristina.) "It was a really difficult role [because of the subject matter], but most of the film was improvised, which was a really different way to shoot a film," shares the Emmy winner. "The director [Amy S. Weber], who also wrote the film, gave us an outline and an idea of what she wanted in the scene. We'd brainstorm about what she wanted for us to achieve and portray, and then we'd go into the scene and improvise. It really added a different element to it, and was something that I've never done before. It made the film so real!"

So real, in fact, that King admits she had a hard time letting the role go when she left the studio. "It was very difficult and upsetting," she concedes. "But it's also so important. Everybody, of course, wants to solve bullying. What's so different about this film is that it doesn't just show [bullying] from the victim's point of view, or the bully's side or the bystander's side. As the director explained it, people who were [emotionally] hurt end up hurting other people because that's their defense mechanism. They don't want to feel the pain, so they wind up hurting other people to make themselves feel better. That's why we need to promote dialogue about it."

THE LATE LATE SHOW Does Daytime!

LateLateShowYRSpoof.jpg

If you ever wanted to see CSI: CYBER's Patricia Arquette and Star Trek's Chris Pine on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, this is about as close as you are going to get! The actors were last night's guests on THE LATE LATE SHOW with James Corden and hysterically acted out a scene from the CBS soap with the host.

In setting up the sketch, Corden explained that his studio is in the same building as the iconic soap -- and they even share a printer, where one of his writers' assistants found a Y&R script left behind. Watch the video below, and then let us know in the comments if you think their performance is worthy of a Daytime Emmy Award!

ATWT Alum Engaged!

Vanessa_Ray14196.jpg

Congratulations are in order for Vanessa Ray, who currently stars on CBS's primetime drama BLUE BLOODS, but soap fans will remember as AS THE WORLD TURNS' Teri — she recently became engaged to boyfriend Landon Beard!

According to Hello Magazine, Beard proposed to the actress at one of their favorite spots in New York City, Pier 84 on the Hudson River, despite the frigid East Coast temperatures. And photos of the actual proposal were taken by a conveniently-placed tourist who was revealed to be Ray's good friend Kelly Sullivan (Sage, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS)! "Totally unbeknownst to me, he had Kelly fly out from L.A.," she confided to the magazine. "She was disguised in a black wig pretending to be a tourist taking pictures during the whole thing."

Best wishes to the happy couple for a lifetime together!

UPDATE: Rowell's Lawyer Responds To CBS Claim

Rowell.jpg

One of the attorneys representing former THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla) in her lawsuit against CBS and Sony argues that the corporations' claims that the actress' case is unconstitutional is... well, false.

"CBS and Sony's position is no surprise, but it's certainly misguided," says Dan Stormer of Hadsell & Stormer, co-counsel for Rowell. "Nothing in the Constitution exempts Hollywood from adhering to this country's laws prohibiting retaliation against employees who oppose racial discrimination. The core of this case is Ms. Rowell's free speech -- her right to speak out about the lack of diversity at her workplace without reprisal."

Tell us in the comments below, whose side are you on?

B&B's Karen "Steals" Brooke's Dad!

DuffyFosters.jpg

Brooke has, ahem, shall we say, "stolen" many men on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL over the years. Well, now, turnabout is fair play! THE FOSTERS executive producer Joanna Johnson, who recurs as Karen on the CBS sudser, has snagged Patrick Duffy (ex-Stephen) to play Robert Quinn, Sr., the father of Callie's biological pop, Robert (played by Kerr Smith, Ryder, AS THE WORLD TURNS) in the drama's season finale.

"I was mesmerized by Patrick's work on B&B," FOSTERS executive producer Johnson tells Soaps In Depth. "He gave this beautiful speech to Katie and did it in one take. He was so good I forgot I was in the scene! When this part came up, I wrote him an E-mail and begged him to come on to the show."

Watch for Robert and Callie to see each other in a new light after Robert's dad visits. "We've alluded to the dynamic that Robert's father had something to do with him leaving Callie's mother," Johnson says. Might the former DALLAS star return for more shows when THE FOSTERS returns for its third season? "We definitely want to bring him back," the exec adds.

The episode in which Duffy appears is titled "The End Of The Beginning," and was written by Johnson and fellow executive producers Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige. It airs tonight, March 23, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC Family.

CBS And Sony Argue Rowell's Suit Uconstitutional

Victoria_Rowell02318.jpg

The lawsuit between Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and CBS and Sony Pictures Television as taken another twist. The Wrap is reporting that the defendants have filed a motion in U.S. district court in New York to have the actress' lawsuit dismissed.

In a memo, attorneys for CBS and Sony claim Rowell's suit is "a blatant attempt by Plaintiff to force her way back onto a daytime television soap opera, after she voluntarily resigned from her role in 2007."

The memo also argues that casting and script decisions are protected free speech and ordering CBS and Sony to make those choices for Rowell's benefit would go against the First Amendment.

In addition to asking for the case to be dismissed, attorneys for CBS and Sony are requesting the venue be changed to California, where Y&R tapes. As this ongoing real-life soap opera continues, we'll keep bringing you updates as we get them!

Maya's Secret Stuns Soap Fans!

MayaEp.jpg

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL broke unexpected ground at the end of today's episode when Nicole purported that her sister Maya was born Myron — in other words, that she was her brother! While it was not entirely clear from the cliffhanger's final tag (and the look on Maya's face) whether Nicole had her facts correct, subsequent mainstream media stories have confirmed that B&B is embarking on a soap first by featuring a transgender character as part of its regular cast (though it's not the first to feature a transgender person — ABC's THE CITY once featured a transgender fashion model named Azure and ALL MY CHILDREN introduced a glam rocker named Zarf who identified as a woman.)

One source tells Soaps In Depth that B&B has been working closely in conjunction with GLAAD, the leading advocate for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, to make sure they tell this upcoming storyline with accuracy and sensitivity. The source also says Karla Mosley (Maya) is absolutely thrilled with the story twist. "Totally not supposed to be tweeting," Mosley posted to her Twitter page following Wednesday's East Coast airing, "but thanks for all the LOVE. So much more to come."

"It is about people respecting other people's differences and their uniqueness," said executive producer and headwriter Bradley Bell in a statement published on USAToday.com. "In the end, we all want to be loved, and in order to love someone else you first have to love yourself. If you are transgender, gay, straight, it doesn't matter. It's about finding love in life. This is a love story."

B&B had been keeping details of this storyline under tighter security than Fort Knox in recent weeks, but following the airing of Wednesday's episodes the Twitterverse exploded with responses that ran the gamut from stunned and excited by the unexpected reveal to bewildered, particularly by the fact that Maya claimed to have had a baby that died after she gave it up. That question, and many more, will presumably be answered in the days and weeks to come!

Share your own reactions to this surprising twist in the comments!

B&B Star To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award!

BettyROCKERS.jpg

We still don't even know the final nominees for the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards (those will be announced on Thursday, March 26), but The National Academy of Television Arts And Sciences has revealed one of the trophies will be given to Betty White (ex-Ann, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), who will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award!

"Betty White is an American institution," says Bob Mauro, president of NATAS. "Betty's career as a female pioneer has followed television from literally the beginning of the medium, winning her first Emmy Award in 1952, to the digital-streaming future, winning again in 2010. She is one of the most beloved female performers in the history of television and the National Academy is proud to be honoring her with a most well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award."
