Return To THE BAY

THE BAY, the wickedly entertaining Web series that took home this year's Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approaches -- Drama Series, is returning with eight new episodes for what's sure to become a December to remember.

Picking up where the story left off nearly a year ago, Bay City socialite Sara Garrett (Mary Beth Evans, Kayla, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) remains behind bars and facing murder charges while her son, Peter, is rebounding from his emotional break-up with his Mrs. Robinson (aka Janice; played by Lilly Melgar, ex-Lily, GENERAL HOSPITAL) by getting all hot and bothered with his other super hot ex, Vivian. What he doesn't know is that Janice has just been brutally raped and is now being verbally assaulted by Lianna (Jade Harlow; ex-Sheryl, DAYS), who found out about their affair. Making matters worse, Sara's conniving husband, Steve Jensen (Matthew Ashford, ex-Jack, DAYS; ex-Tom, GH) is scheming to get his hands on her money while a volatile John Blackwell (Ronn Moss, ex-Ridge, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) is plotting to take down the Garretts in an even darker way.

Can Sara get released in time to save her family AND her fortune? The answers are coming beginning with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, December 1, and another on Thursday, December 3. The rest of the season will be unveiled every Tuesday and Thursday through December 22. For a sneak peak, check out the promo here.

DAYS' Jade Harlow Visits The ZOO

Jade Harlow (ex-Sheryl, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) guest stars tonight on ZOO, the CBS summer series based on the James Patterson novel of the same name. "The shortest way to describe it is to say it's an 'animal apocalypse,'" Harlow says of the show's premise. Anissa, Harlow's character, plays a pro-animal advocate who has always valued animal lives over human ones. Not surprisingly, she comes into conflict with Jackson Oz (played by James Wolk), the zoologist who is trying to uncover the reason why animals have been behaving so strangely.

"I got to work with almost everybody in the cast," Harlow enthuses. "It was a blast! There are a lot of great one-liners that point out Anissa's way of thinking and why people don't agree with it." Coincidentally, the actress had read the Patterson novel prior to being cast on the show. "The book is very different from the show," she reports. "The producers have taken the story and made it even better. They really enrich it."

The show was shot in New Orleans, which Harlow says was "awesome. The people there are so production-friendly and savvy. The cast was great. The chemistry you see among everyone is real."

Don't miss tonight's episode of ZOO, titled "Emotional Contagion," airing at 9:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

Details On Irizarry's New Role!

NBC has confirmed that Vincent Irizarry is, in fact, headed to DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Our friends at TV Line got the scoop that the soap hopper will be creating a new character, Deimos, who has strong ties to the Kiriakis clan.

The actor himself took to Facebook to share his exciting news with his fans. "Finally!" he posted. "I'm able to share with all of you what I've been excitedly holding in for over a month now, that I've joined all the incredibly talented people in Salem over at DAYS! I honestly couldn't be happier to be working with such wonderfully gifted people, all of whom who have been so warm and welcoming. I'm equally thrilled to be playing a character I've already loved playing these past weeks, with scripts that have been so wonderful, I'm excited each time I open a new one to find out what the writers have in store for me next, and alongside actors I have so much respect for. What a true, absolute pleasure it's all been!

"Thank you so much, all of you, for your tireless support of me and my work throughout all these years together," he continued. "I'm truly, truly touched by the overwhelming expressions of kind thoughts and well wishes by so many of you throughout all the social media outlets. As it has been throughout so many times in my life working on shows such as this, because of you all, my cup truly runneth over... Can't wait to see you all in Salem!"

Iriziarry's previous soap roles include David Hayward on ALL MY CHILDREN, twins Nick and Lujack on GUIDING LIGHT, David Chow on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and Dr. Scott Clark on SANTA BARBARA. The actor's DAYS episodes will begin airing in mid-January.

Gaston Moves In!

Who could forget Jesse Katsopolis, aka the front man for Jesse & The Rippers and the beloved uncle of the adorable, motherless children on ABC's long-running comedy, FULL HOUSE? Certainly not Justin Gaston (ex-Ben, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), who grew up watching the show in syndication. Now, he's starring as the iconic character's portrayer, John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GENERAL HOSPITAL), in the Lifetime original movie, The Unauthorized Full House Story, airing Saturday, August 22, at 8:00 p.m. EST.

"I was a fan of the show — the writing was really good — and I thought that other stuff like the hair and the catchphrases made Uncle Jesse a lovable character," Gaston relates. "Even though in the beginning, he was a really rough, biker/musician, the way he interacted with the girls [showed] his sweet, soft side, which was really funny."

While on screen, Jesse found love with Rebecca (played by UnREAL's Stephanie Bennett in the film), behind the scenes, Stamos' love life played out famously in the media. It's a situation that Gaston, who is now wed to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Melissa Ordway (Abby), can relate to. "It's about the cast's rise to fame," he says of the movie, "while dealing with their personal lives and juggling the success of the show at the same time."

More than anything, the film is about the friendships, both on camera and behind it, and the memories they created. "It's really positive and well done," Gaston suggests. "If you were a fan of FULL HOUSE, you'll really enjoy this."

A "Million" Reasons Bring Chappell Back To DAYS!

In the upcoming film, A Million Happy Nows, Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GUIDING LIGHT; ex-Carly, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) stars as Lainey Allen, a popular soap opera actress, who exits her daytime drama after finding out she has early-onset Alzheimer's disease. She and her publicist/partner Eva, played by Jessica Leccia (Natalia, GL) move to a beach house overlooking the Pacific Ocean as the couple deals with the devastating diagnosis. Chappell, who also serves as a producer on the project, says the film's soap opera scenes were shot late last year at her old stomping grounds — the DAYS studios in Burbank!

"First, we were going to build a soap opera studio in another studio, but I told [DAYS' co-executive producer] Greg Meng about this film and that I needed a studio," the Emmy-winning actress/producer tells Soaps In Depth. Another co-executive producer of DAYS, Albert Alarr, directed the film, and was helpful in securing the studio space, too. "It was totally fun shooting there," Chappell declares. "Everyone was so accommodating. We could have shot it elsewhere, but filming at DAYS gave us an authentic vibe."

A Million Happy Nows both sheds a light on Alzheimer's and tells the love story of how Lainey and Eva deal with this tragic twist of fate, which, it turns out Lainey knew there was a 50/50 chance of happening. The film's cast is jam-packed with familiar faces from the soap opera world including Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie, DAYS; ex-Joanna, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Robert Gant (David, Y&R), Hillary B. Smith (ex-Stacy, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL; Margo, AS THE WORLD TURNS), and Michael Corbett (ex-David, Y&R).

"We needed someone to play Lainey's rival and someone suggested Susan," says Chappell. "I reached out to her and she said yes. We did some good old soapy catfight scenes that you'll see. It was so much fun. She is so talented."

As a fan of GL's "Otalia" storyline, the film's writer, Marisa Calin, specifically wrote the movie with Chappell and Leccia in mind. "That's really flattering," notes Chappell. "It's important to not only bring more awareness to this disease, but to also show that it can [afflict] same sex couples."

Stay tuned for an upcoming feature on Chappell in the magazine for more on the project, but In the meantime, you can check out a preview of the film here.

Welcome To Candy Land

In the whimsical new Internet drama, WINTERTHORNE (premiering Thursday, August 27) star Martha Madison (ex-Belle, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) is set to find herself in some truly sticky situations -- and they don't come from the sweet treats that her powerful clan makes. "The family [and its business] is run by its women, and they've reached a crossroads," explains creator Michael Caruso (DEVANITY), who also plays Madison's husband, Victor, in the show. "Martha's complicated character, Miranda, is taking over, and we'll see over the course of four episodes where she started from and some of the good and not-so-good choices she's made in order to control her family."

Look for Madison to turn in the kind of dark performances that match her gothic wardrobe and to play opposite fellow soap veterans Kevin Spirtas (ex-Craig, DAYS), GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and Kathleen Gati (Obrecht), Linda Gray (ex-Priscilla, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), Gordon Thompson (DYNASTY), and John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex, ONE LIFE TO LIVE).

Blast Off!

It's not often that you can see three of your favorite daytime stars in one film, so if you missed the theatrical release of 23 Blast last fall, now's your chance to make up for it! The inspirational picture, which stars DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Mark Hapka (ex-Nathan) and features GUIDING LIGHT's Kim Zimmer (Reva) and Crystal Hunt (Lizzie), will become available on DVD at Walmart beginning Tuesday, January 20.

"It's the true story of Travis Freeman, a high school football player from Kentucky who was at the height of his game when he was struck by bacterial meningitis and lost his sight," Hapka offers of his starring role. "He had to readjust to life afterwards and went through a bout of depression, but eventually his coach convinced him to come back to the team."

Look for Hunt to play the cheerleader who breaks Travis' heart, and for Zimmer to bring the heat as his emotional mom in this film produced by former ONE LIFE TO LIVE director Gary Donatelli. For Hapka, who rose to the challenge of playing blind, the best part of the film was getting to do some of the football training he recalls from his own youth. "It was really nice to put the gear back on," he confirms, "and get back out there!"

Dark Days For Foster?

On DAYS OF OUR LIVES, Quinn Hudson was the guy hired by Kate to stir up trouble for Chloe and who later blackmailed EJ. Might his portrayer, Bren Foster, be someone as equally challenging to contend with when he debuts in a new recurring guest role on THE LAST SHIP, the addictive drama from executive producer Michael Bay?

"Going on set and bringing Senior Chief Wolf Taylor [the Australian naval officer that joins the crew in Norfolk, VA] to life is one of the best experiences in my career so far," enthuses Foster, who was himself a big fan of the series' first season. "I'm honored to be surrounded by such an amazing group of talented actors, writers, producers, directors and great crew. From the moment I stepped on set everyone has been extremely welcoming."

The drama, which deals with a group of sailors who avoided the pandemic that wiped out 80 percent of the world's population by being out to sea, is shot aboard some of the U.S. Navy's real-life destroyers. "Being on THE LAST SHIP has really made me appreciate all the men and women in our military. They play a huge part in allowing us to live the way we live," Foster confesses. "[In the show], we portray life-and-death situations, but as you find yourself in the midst of the scene, you realize that there are people doing this for real every day and for that, they have my deepest gratitude."

THE LAST SHIP, which stars Eric Dane and features ALL MY CHILDREN's Charles Parnell (Derek) as a series regular, returns to TNT for its much-anticipated second season next summer.

Spend Christmas With The Bay!

Throughout December, the award-winning Web drama THE BAY will return with two more exciting chapters of story which will be told weekly over the course of eight 20-minute episodes. The chapters will feature another tragic death, as well as address last summer's cliffhangers. Will Lianna (Jade Harlow, ex-Sheryl, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) find out about Janice's (Lilly Melgar, ex-Lily, GENERAL HOSPTIAL) scintillating affair with young Peter? Will Lex (Tristan Rogers, Colin, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) reveal the identity of the person that he thinks Peter's socialite mom, Sara (Mary Beth Evans, Kayla, DAYS) killed? And how might the return of Liza (ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Ilene Kristen, Roxy) affect his recent efforts to revive his relationship with Sara?

To help play out all of these storylines and more, a host of new faces will be joining the cast. "Alicia Leigh Willis (ex-Courtney, GH) and Eric Nelsen (A.J., ALL MY CHILDREN) will play Sara's niece and nephew, Avery and Daniel, respectively," series creator Gregori J. Martin reveals. "Lindsay Hartley (Cara, AMC; ex-Arianna, DAYS) is coming in as a woman from Marly's (Martha Madison, ex-Belle, DAYS) past, Eric Martsolf (Brady, DAYS) will appear in flashback as a younger Lee Nelson, and Judith McConnell (Sophia, SANTA BARBARA) will bring to life a role that fans have been anticipating for years!"

However, the news that has the Internet buzzing is that soap opera veteran A Martinez (best known as SB's Cruz) reunited with former castmates Lane Davies (Mackenzie; Mason, SB) and Nicolas Coster (Jack; Lionel, SB) on set when he taped his December 16 appearance on the show. "I'm playing Janice's father, Nardo. I'm trying to get information out of Lane's [police detective] character, whom the family thinks is not being forthcoming," Martinez offers. "And I got to be the voice of reason with Janice, as is a father's wont to do." Tune in to catch the first two new episodes, which will be released back to back, on Thursday, December 4, at 3 p.m. EST.

These are the things that she comes up with and you can't help but love her enthusiasm."

And this single could be the start of something much bigger for the musical duo! "I'm sure next year we'll do a full-length Christmas CD," the actor muses. "This is probably like a warm-up for what she has in mind!"

You can purchase "Baby It's Cold Outside" for $.99 on both iTunes and Google Play.

Holiday Romance For Muldoon!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin) is kicking off the holiday season right this weekend in UP TV's new original, Christmas In Palm Springs. "It's about a New York family that's in trouble — my wife, played by Dina Meyer, and I have grown apart and are following our own dreams, but the children are in the middle and still see the love between us," he reveals. "So when my wife has business in Palm Springs and I have a meeting in Los Angeles, the kids conspire [for us to meet up]."

Add in a little Christmas magic from Gabriel (Bill Cobbs) the all-knowing hotel concierge and some wild chemistry between Muldoon and Meyer, and the result is a thoroughly entertaining picture. "Dina and I have known each other since doing Starship Troopers together back in 1997," Muldoon confides. "And as much as Dina is beautiful, she's also tough. We've always had this very funny, competitive banter between us and we couldn't help but bring that to our scenes [in this film]."

Muldoon's character is a theater director whose talk-to is also sure to make viewers grin. "Ian Ziering (BEVERLY HILLS 90210; Cameron, GUIDING LIGHT) plays my hustling agent/dear friend who knows what's going on with the family — he's so great in this movie," Muldoon reveals, adding that another pleasant surprise is in store. "The film also marks my first time singing on television. My character does a rock 'n' roll serenade to his wife at the end!" Don't miss the premiere of this uplifting tale on Sunday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m. ET on UP TV.

Since DAYS tapes so far in advance, could Kristen be returning to Salem with a little bundle of joy? DAYS' Shipp Is Beating A New Drum!

Alexandra Shipp plays DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Marybeth as an opinionated teen for whom the world is black and white. Now, she's portraying another headstrong spirit in VH1's Drumline 2: A New Beat, the sequel to the 2002 romantic comedy that changed the way people view the world of marching bands.

"I play Dani," Shipp reveals of her starring role as girl from an upper crust family in Brooklyn, NY. "She's a drummer who wants to follow her cousin to A&T University in Atlanta, but her parents really want her to go to a different college and not study music." Of course, the heart knows what it wants, and Dani's got rhythm in her blood. "She does goes to A&T and tries to get on the drumline as the first female section leader — craziness ensues," Shipp previews. "It's all about girl power in this movie. It's about bridging the gap."

Acting in this movie was the easy part for Shipp, who enjoyed being on set with producer Nick Cannon (who returns for a cameo appearance as Devon Miles) and Letoya Luckett (who plays the school's dean). However, actually shooting it was another story. "We were on football fields in 90-degree heat plus humidity in Atlanta," Shipp laughs, adding, "and I was in a three-piece cotton [band uniform] with a 35-lb. metal drum on my hip!"

Not only did the actress learn to march for this role, she actually had to learn how to play. "In the first movie, Drumline, they had about six months to learn the drums, but for our movie, we had two weeks," she reveals. "So every day we were learning patterns and figuring out hand twirls with sticks and stuff like that. It was pretty strenuous, but I walked away with some pretty slick drumming moves!"

Tune in to VH1 to see Shipp in action on Monday, October 27, at 9:00 p.m. ET. For more from the actress, including the details on her starring role in Lifetime's upcoming biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, don't miss the issue of CBS Soaps In Depth on sale Monday, November 3!
