Charles Keating, best known to daytime audiences as villainous Carl Hutchins on ANOTHER WORLD, has passed away from cancer at the age of 72.

"Hearing the news from Stephen Schnetzer (Cass) was very difficult," AW castmate Linda Dano (Felicia) wrote on Facebook. "Thoughts of Charles flooded my memory because I loved this man the moment I saw him on the set of ANOTHER WORLD. He came to us an accomplished and talented actor. Our cast was very fortunate to have him working with us.

"Charles was a man of many colors — both on screen and off," she continues. "His incredible talent and devoted friendship were the hallmarks of who he was. It's so hard to think of the vibrant man we all knew as having to deal with illness but he did so with his usual resolve. My heart goes out to his wife of over 50 years and his sons."

Keating's career spanned stage and screen over the years, including soap stints on AS THE WORLD TURNS (as Niles Mason), PORT CHARLES (as James Ritchfield) and ALL MY CHILDREN (as Damon Lazarre). He was nominated four times for the Daytime Emmy Awards, winning in 1996 for Lead Actor.
