Heather Tom Welcomes Her Baby Boy!

Heather5.jpg

Congratulations to THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Heather Tom (Katie) and her husband, James Achor. The couple welcomed son Zane Alexander (8 lbs., 1 oz.) to the world on Sunday, October 28. "I was able to go drug-free with my labor," Tom tweeted. "Definitely the hardest thing I've ever done."

As for choosing the name, Tom tells Soaps In Depth the name Zane came to her in a dream, and was instantly agreed upon by her hubby. "James actually grew up right around Zanesville, Ohio, and we collect Zanesville pottery. I even found out that Zane Grey was James' grandfather's favorite writer!"

Tom has stated that she intends to return to work as soon as possible, so B&B viewers shouldn't expect Katie to be missing much on-screen this fall.

B&B's Stephanie Gets Musical Sendoff

celticwomanbb.jpg

To honor the exit of Susan Flannery (Stephanie) from THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, the soap is throwing her alter ego the party to end all parties. And to make it even more memorable, all-female band Celtic Woman will be appearing on episodes airing Monday, November 12 and Tuesday, November 13.

"I can't think of a more beautiful way to pay tribute to the character of Stephanie Forrester and her Irish heritage than to bring in Celtic Woman to serenade her," said executive producer and headwriter Bradley Bell in a statement. "Their distinctive voice and angelic melodies were the perfect accompaniment to this powerful and emotional storyline."

Celtic Woman will be performing the classic Irish standard "Danny Boy" as well as their new hit single, "The Parting Glass," which will be dedicated to Stephanie by Eric. So get your handkerchiefs ready, people (if they weren't already)!

According to BroadwayWorld.com, the cast for an upcoming reading in late October of the musical will feature John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) and Michael Park (Jack, AS THE WORLD TURNS) alongside fellow Broadway stars Kristin Chenoweth and Jane Krakowski.

Tunie Soars!

atwt_tamara_tunie.jpg

AS THE WORLD TURNS Tamara Tunie (Jessica) will be taking audiences to new heights when she headlines the famous Feinstein's club at the Loews Regency Hotel in New York City this month. "I guess you can call it a cabaret act," she confides of her aptly titled show, Yes, I Can Sing! "But I think of it more as an evening of great music and a little chatter." Together with her renowned band members: Mike Renzi, Gerald Cannon, and Buddy Williams, she'll be taking to the stage from Tuesday, October 28, through Saturday, November 3. "I'm excited about working with them because they're really exceptional musicians," she enthuses. For reservations, call (212) 339-4095 or visit Feinsteinsatloewsregency.com.

Next, Tunie takes to the skies when she stars in Paramount Pictures' new blockbuster, Flight. "It's about a commercial airline pilot (Denzel Washington) who successfully crash lands a plane and is touted the hero; however, at the hospital, they draw blood and his toxicology reports [present] questions," previews Tunie. Look for the actress to play the leader of the flight crew who — after helping to save the plane — gets unwillingly caught up in the investigation. "I consider this to be my first action movie," she relates. "I had such a good time shooting [it], I didn't want it to be over. I cried!" The film, which also stars Don Cheadle, John Goodman, and Melissa Leo (Linda, ALL MY CHILDREN), opens Friday, November 2. For more from Tunie, including details about her next project, check out her Keeping Track feature in the current issue of Soaps In Depth.

The World Still Turns

coverbig_0.300x300.jpg

Like many of you, writer Lynn Liccardo was a big fan of AS THE WORLD TURNS. And she's put down some of her memories and thoughts regarding the long-running soap in a brand new e-book entitled as the world stopped turning...

From the author's description: "Notwithstanding the title and cover photograph, as the world stopped turning... is not a post-apocalyptic novel, but a collection of 18 essays considering the final years of AS THE WORLD TURNS, the soap opera that redefined the genre when it premiered in 1956. Written by a lifelong fan of the show, these essays weave together the show's history, characters, storylines, writers and producers, to create a context within which to consider, not just ATWT, but all soap operas, past and present."

You can purchase the book for $9.99 and read a short sample of it by following this link.

DALLAS is delving back into its past again, bringing back the popular Gary and Valene Ewing as played by Ted Shackelford (Jeffrey, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and Joan Van Ark (ex-Gloria, Y&R) for the soap's second season!Since they're only supposed to be in a few episodes of DALLAS, and Shackelford only recurs on Y&R, the gig shouldn't affect his time in Genoa City in any noticeable fashion. Back in the day, Gary and Val were spun off into their own successful primetime sudser, KNOTS LANDING, so could the success of the new DALLAS inspire TNT to bring back the cul-de-sac? We can only hope!

GL's Bonilla Is Out For REVENGE!

bonilla6909_170791.jpg

GUIDING LIGHT alum E.J. Bonilla (Rafe) has been cast as a mystery man from Nolan's past on primetime soap REVENGE according to TV Line. Although their exact connection is still being kept under wraps, given Nolan's fulid sexuality, he could very well be an ex-lover... something that could throw a wrench into Nolan's recent flirting with co-worker Padma.

As to whether this guest-starring role could turn into a recurring one, we'll just have to wait and see! If he causes Nolan too much trouble, there's every chance Emily will take care of him ASAP!

Here Comes The Bride!

cotsonasbluebloods.jpg

Justine Cotsonas, who portrayed AS THE WORLD TURNS' lovelorn (if not slightly loony!) Sophie, is about to have another bad run of luck. In the next episode of CBS' BLUE BLOODS (titled "Scorched Earth"), she guest stars a Mid-western children's book editor who falls victim to a drive by shooting on her wedding day! "She is very excited because she is about to get married the love of her life," Cotsonas explains. "Unfortunately she never gets to that point."

Although her character suffers the worst of fates, the actress says that being on set that day gave her reason to smile. "Christopher Stadulis plays the limousine driver [in my scenes] and it's funny because when I was ATWT's Sophie and I kidnapped the baby and ran away to New York, he played the cop that approached me and tried to make sure everything was okay," Cotsonas confides.

The beauty also got to meet series star Donny Wahlberg who was on hand during taping. "It's so funny because when I was real little, I had girlfriends who were kind of like big sisters and they were obsessed with [Wahlberg's former boy band] New Kids On The Block," Cotsonas giggles. "I have a video of myself when I was very little and dancing around to 'Step By Step.'" Tune in for CBS' BLUE BLOODS on Friday, October 19, at 10 p.m. EST. For more about Cotsonas' future projects, check out her upcoming feature interview in Soaps In Depth.

Interview: Raines Returns To Broadway!

RainesNewsies.jpg

Having spent a year starring in Follies -- first at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., before a limited-engagement Broadway revival and ending in Los Angeles -- Ron Raines (Alan, GUIDING LIGHT) was ready for a break. "I was so artistically fulfilled... and also physically exhausted," reveals the actor, who received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Benjamin Stone. I was really not in a hurry to work after Follies in a big show."

But then Disney came calling, making Raines a short-term offer to play Joseph Pulitzer in the smash musical Newsies while John Dossett stars in another musical, Giant. "It's a perfect follow-up," Raines tells Soaps In Depth. "It's not a huge role that I have to carry a major part f the show like I did in Follies. Which I did not want to do immediately. I'm in three scenes -- they're fabulous scenes -- and two songs. A reprise of another song, so a song and a half, if you will! It's perfect."

On October 9, Raines made his debut in the musical based on the 1992 film, based on the real-life newsboys strike of 1899. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, the show tales the tale of a band of teenaged newspaper boys -- aka "newsies" -- who dream of a better life far from the hardships of the streets. But when publishing titans Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the expense of the young peddlers, the boys across the city strike against the magnates. "It had a major impact at that time. It's very David against Goliath," notes Raines, who is scheduled to perform through Sunday, December 16. "That youthful, idealistic hope. And I'm Goliath!" Even though the young actors who play the newies carry the show, the character of Pulitzer is always front-and-center... even if he's not necessarily seen. "I'm talked about the entire time because I'm the bad guy!" Raines says with a chuckle. "I love that!"

Interview: Bundy's Back In Soaps!

BundyDIXIE.jpg

It's been 11 years since Laura Bell Bundy (Marah) walked away from GUIDING LIGHT to return to the bright lights of Broadway. Having since also launched a successful career as a country music artist, the Nashville resident is now coming full circle with a new role on The CW's primetime soap, HART OF DIXIE!

Together Again!
Bundy makes her DIXIE debut tonight as Shelby, the first woman with whom George -- played by AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Scott Porter (Casey) -- goes out with following his breakup with Lemon. "I don't know if they are right for each other, but they do have a little thing," Bundy grins. While she has great memories of playing the daughter of GL's wacky Kim Zimmer (Reva), the Kentucky native says she's basing Shelby on someone a bit closer to home. "She's the younger version of my mother -- with the Southern accent, her energy, and her [enthusiasm]!" Bundy giggles. "The show's dramatic, sexy, spunky... It's young, beautiful people doing crazy, scandalous things. It's lighter and [funnier] than GUIDING LIGHT."

This isn't the first time that Bundy and Porter have crossed paths. Not only did they both do daytime TV, but he'd also been one of the finalists to play Warner opposite the Tony nominee when she was starring in the hit Broadway production of Legally Blonde. "He didn't get it, but it was the best thing that could ever happen to him because he ended up on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS within months," Bundy recalls. "He's such a sweetheart, and we've had a lot of fun together."

Ex-Y&R Star Tackles Social Issue In Primetime

monicapotter.jpg

Monica Potter, who was Y&R's first Sharon back in 1994, is dealing with a social issue storyline on the primetime serial PARENTHOOD. Her character, Kristina Braverman, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and while the ordeal is understandably difficult it's also bringing her and her husband Adam (played by DIRTY SEXY MONEY's Peter Krause) closer together.

"It's an interesting dynamic that we play between them," Jason Katims, executive producer, tells Soaps In Depth. "Adam is somebody that we've seen as the 'go-to' person or the rock of not only his nuclear family, but also his extended family. Ultimately, [this disease is] something that deepens their connection with each other."

"I can't wait for those little moments that [happen] between them," adds Potter. "[As] the cancer progresses or gets better or doesn't — whatever the storyline is — I love the moments between [Adam and Kristina] so much. It's just ridiculous how much I feel like [Peter's] my husband. And he has said the same thing. It's kind of cool to work with someone where you just finish each others' sentences."

PARENTHOOD airs on NBC at 10:00 pm EST on Tuesdays.
