Y&R Bad Boy Pens A Good Guy's Guide To Living

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Deacon may not be the type of guy mothers want their daughters to marry, but in real life, his portrayer, Sean Kanan, has written a guide with plenty of good advice and tips for today's man. The Modern Gentleman Cooking And Entertaining With Sean Kanan is available starting Tuesday, September 13. "I don't want people to think this is another cookbook by a celebrity," Kanan tells Soaps In Depth. "Yes, it started out as a 'cookbook' and there are recipes in it, but the last thing that this is is a cookbook. I wanted to write a book that would help people with relationships."

Kanan's tome advises men on how to maneuver in today's ever-changing world. "Men have never had a mentor," the actor muses. "Women have had Oprah and Martha Stewart, but men have never had anyone to teach them a lot of the stuff that women wish they knew how to do."

In addition to recipes, Kanan offers advice on everything from how men should treat women to how guys can set the dinner table. "I'm tired of hearing my friends say that they're a nice guy and can't get a date. My book deals with dating, sexual politics and flower arranging. I ever have a chapter on 'sexting.'"

The actor plans to juggle his on-going Y&R role while doing a book tour. Check the schedule below and to see if Kanan's coming to a bookstore near you! The book is also available on

Chapman Heads To The Stage!

Fans who've been lamenting that Gloria's presence on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has been reduced to stints in jail, wringing her hands on the sidelines regarding her children, and serving up a cocktail or two at Gloworm, can take heart -- and see her portrayer, Judith Chapman, in a one-woman play called Vivien about the life of legendary actress Vivien Leigh, who suffered from manic-depression. "I actually played her 10 years ago in a play at the Old Globe Theater, so when I found this play, I knew I had to do it," says the actress. "I had done a lot of research before, but now my research was much more in depth. I had to really explore her, since it will be only me on stage, going through every single relationship, every single moment cross-referenced of what was happening in her life, and how she really felt about that. I'll be exploring the darkness and the light. It thrilled me at first, and then terrified me!"

Chapman is scheduled to bring her Vivian Leigh portrayal to the Rogue Machine Theatre in Los Angeles the weekends of August 12-15 and August 19-22, and August 27-28. If you're interested in watching the soap vet's performance, call: 323-930-0747 or visit

UPDATE: An additional show has been added for Monday, August 29.

Catch Bundy In Her First Lead Movie Role!

Cable network CMT -- as in Country Music Television -- is making its first foray into made-for-television films this week with the movie To The Mat, starring GUIDING LIGHT alum Laura Bell Bundy (ex-Marah) and Rick Schroeder. Penned by Sweet Home Alabama's writer, To The Mat tells the story of a laid-back former wrestler trying to keep his clan's wrestling school above water, and the high-strung Wall Street consultant hired by his mother to help save the family's business.

"She gets this project in Georgia, thinks she is saving this prep school from financial ruin. She does it as a favor to her boss," Bundy tells Soaps In Depth of her alter ego, Janice, who immediately clashes with Schroeder's Aaron. "They have this animosity towards each other because he doesn't think she needs to be there, but his mother does, and she's getting married in three months and just wants to get out of there."

CMT hand-picked the Nashville native for the project, based on her popularity as a country music career. "They realized that their viewership likes to watch movies and I was so honored that they asked me to be in their first one," she shares. "According to some of their CMT statistics, my video "Giddy On Up" did very well for them. So they thought, our audience is familiar with her and she also happens to be an actress... I think that's how it all came about. I have a great relationship with the folks over there.

"It was fun, and I was the lead in the movie which I had never done before," she adds. "I am as literally in every scene. It was a lot of work. We shot the film very quickly. But Ricky is great. He thinks like a director because he has been in the business for so long. So it was really fun to kind of learn from him in that way."

To The Mat debuts on Wednesday, August 17, at 8 p.m. EST.

Contract News For B&B Vet!

Though Eric Forrester isn't seen as frequently on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL these days, that's no cause for alarm that the family patriarch is being phased out. His portrayer, John McCook confirms to Soaps In Depth that he's re-upped his contract.

"I just signed a new contract with the show, for another three years," McCook reports. "I'm very glad about that, because a lot of actors my age are taken off contract and become recurring."

While McCook takes a pragmatic view about Eric's more-limited screen time on the show, he's hopeful that the impending return to the canvas of Eric's namesake, Rick, next month (to be once again played by Jacob Young) will give his character more opportunity for scenes on the show. "We don't hear about Eric much anymore," says McCook, "But with bringing Rick back into the picture, it will be interesting to see where the chips fall."
