GL Alum Cast On OLTL

The early exit of Robin Strasser from ONE LIFE TO LIVE means that Llanview will be in need of a new mayor when Dorian leaves town... so the soap has cast GUIDING LIGHT alumna Wendy Moniz (Dinah) in the recurring role of Mayor Finn.

Since exiting GL in 1999, Moniz has had recurring roles on primetime series such as DAMAGES, NASH BRIDGES, BIG SHOTS and THE GUARDIAN. Look for the actress -- who is married to fellow GL alum Frank Grillo (Hart) -- to make her OLTL debut in September.

ATWT Star Is A Real Steel Magnolia

Since AS THE WORLD TURNS came to an end, Ellen Dolan (Margo) has been treading the boards, and when we ran into her recently, we discovered that her latest production is the classic play Steel Magnolias. Dolan will be playing the role of beauty salon owner Truvy, and jokes that she's already been fitted with the big hair and the big... bosom to help get her into character (presumably modeled after Dolly Parton, who essayed the part in the film version!). The cast also had some help getting into the spirit of the heartbreaking and humorous play set in the South when they found themselves rehearsing in a space that had no air conditioning during the recent East Coast heatwave!

Steel Magnolias will be running from Wednesday, August 3, through Saturday, September 10, at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse in Cape May, NJ. For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit the Cape May Stage Web site.

Meet Y&R's Newest Legal Eagle!

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Sharon just may have a chance of staying out of jail -- in the form of her new attorney, Avery Bailey Clark, who's being played by daytime vet Jessica Collins (Dinah Lee, LOVING.) "I was always open to returning to daytime," the actress tells Soaps In Depth. "But it had to be for the right role. This one happened really quickly. Y&R called me and I read the part and I was interested in the character immediately. The timing was right. I felt this was a good fit for me."

Collins, who is on contract with the soap, had only taped about four episodes when she spoke to us, so she's still learning about Avery. We asked if she might be related to Matt Clark, the former Y&R bad boy, played by Eddie Cibrian, who raped Sharon. (Viewers were recently reminded of Matt in the July 4th Sharon-centric episode.) "That's the first I've heard of that," chuckles Collins about a Matt/Avery connection. I don't know much Eddie and I look alike but that's never stopped anything in daytime!"

Any familial dynamics Avery may -- or may not -- have will unfold over time. Meanwhile, there's a more pressing question: will Avery get Sharon's guilty verdict reversed? Collins hopes so. "These are the types of cases -- no pun intended -- that Avery lives for. She's dedicated her life to righting the wrongs of the system. She's started up an Innocence Project. She's not in it for the money. She's not a glamorous lawyer. She's a bit on the clunky side. I describe her more as a 'broad' than a lady."

Watch for Collins to make her Y&R debut on Wednesday, July 27.

Walker Gets Hate Mail!

Daytime veteran Tonja Walker (Marie, GUIDING LIGHT; Nancy, PASSIONS; ex-Alex, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) will guest star in the Off-Broadway play You've Got Hate Mail on Friday, August 5. The comedy, performed every Friday night at the Triad Theatre in New York City, takes a hilarious look at sexting, lies and laptops. A kind of digital-age answer to A.R. Gurney's Love Letters, the story about an extra-marital affair gone horribly wrong is told entirely in E-mails.

"It's a riot," Walker tells Soaps In Depth, who will be pinch-hitting for playwright Jane Milmore in the role of Stephanie, the wife. "I've been asked to guest star on August 5, and then for more dates in September and October."

Milmore's co-writer, Billy Van Zandt (who also stars as Stephanie's husband in the play), says, "we've been fans of Tonja's work for many years. She has great comic instincts that are a perfect match for the way Jane and I write."

But the theater role isn't the only thing that Walker has cooking these days. She'll also appear in the upcoming independent films My Dog The Space Traveler and Excuse Me For Living, which has a star-studded cast, including SEINFELD's Wayne Knight and Jerry Stiller, Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL; Mick, ATWT) and Melissa Archer (Natalie, OLTL)!

Evans Is Returning To OLTL!

The parade of ONE LIFE TO LIVE veterans who will be returning to Llanview before the soap signs off of ABC in January has begun: a spokesperson for the show confirms that fan favorites John Loprieno (ex-Brad, AS THE WORLD TURNS) and Andrea Evans (Tawny, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) will be bringing one-time supercouple Cord and Tina back to town in September. The actors were last seen on-screen in 2008 when OLTL celebrated its 40th anniversary.

But what does the OLTL return mean for Evans' status on B&B, where she's been recurring as Amber's white-trash mother? Turns out, she's just taking a brief hiatus from the CBS sudser. "We're thrilled for Andrea and her fans that she gets to return to OLTL before they go off the air to reprise a role that started her illustrious career in daytime television," says a rep for B&B. "We're also happy to report that Andrea remains a part of the B&B family portraying the character of Tawny Moore."

Interview: Sister Act

Joanna Johnson reprises her role of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Karen Spencer beginning Friday, July 22, when the beautiful blonde comes to town to for her brother and sister-in-law's vow-renewal ceremony. While you could hardly consider Karen and Bill to be the tightest of siblings, Johnson says her alter ego, as part-owner of Spencer Publications, has an interest in seeing her brother domesticated, so to speak. "Spencer stockholders are happier with a married, settled Bill than they were with 'Bachelor Bill,'" she explains. "So Karen is invested in this marriage working, because it's good for business!"

Lloyd Takes On Big Screen Roles!

Writers/producers/directors Ethan and Joel Coen -- collectively known in Hollywood as The Coen Brothers -- are known for their movies like Fargo, The Big Lebowski, True Grit, Burn After Reading and a slew of other big-screen hits. But starting Thursday, July 21, the brothers' films will be the latest subject matter of For The Record -- a series of shows featuring live performances of soundtracks used in films of different directors at the Vermont Kitchen & Bar in Los Feliz, CA. And THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL star Kristolyn Lloyd (Dayzee) will be one of the performers entertaining the crowds! "They've done a John Hughes one, a Baz Luhrman one... They asked me to do the one for the Coen Brothers, and I was like, ''Heck, yes!'" the actress tells Soaps In Depth.

The shows take place in the restaurant's Barre room, a cabaret-style music hall where performers act out scenes and belt out tunes from the featured director's movies while guests sip cocktails and dine. One of Lloyd's big numbers is singing Dionne Warwick's "Do You Know The Way To San Jose?," which was featured in Fargo. "I put on a big, sparkly dress and sing that song," she says with a smile. "It's really fun. Then you do actual scenes from the movies. You go there, you have dinner, you drink and you watch the performers."

For The Record features a rotating cast. "The cast is always different, and we're always working with different people in different shows," says Lloyd. "If it works out with the B&B schedule, I'd love to do more!"

For The Record - Coen Brothers is scheduled to run Thursdays through Saturdays until September 24. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Lloyd will be performing approximately once a weekend. To find out her schedule, check her Facebook fan page for updates!

Ramirez Gets A Badge!

Marisa Ramirez (ex-Carmen/Ines, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is starring opposite Rachael Carpani, Treat Williams, and Kathy Baker as a top cop on Lifetime TV's new drama, AGAINST THE WALL. The series revolves around a single Chicago detective, Abby (Carpani), who embraces her new position in the Internal Affairs division, much the chagrin of her close-knit family of patrol officers. "IA is known as the rat squad... but she is very excited about the job and gives every case her all," says Ramirez, who plays Abby's partner, Lina Flores. "My character joined IA about seven years ago, so it's old hat. I like to watch her get excited about something and just roll my eyes."

Word to the wise, this isn't just another police procedural. Sure there will be lots of banter between the partners, but like most programs on the network, this one is geared for women. What's in it for the female soap fan? Well to start with, Lina is married -- to hunky Jason George (Michael, SUNSET BEACH; OFF THE MAP) and very pregnant! "She's working, eating a lot, and having a lot of hormonal attitude," Ramirez grins. "I hope it'll be fun to watch me waddle around." But perhaps more importantly, she says, this is a show with heart. "There are things that will make you laugh out loud, things that will make you cry, and things that will make you commiserate with the characters and what's going on in their daily lives. It's not just about solving cases."

AGAINST THE WALL premieres on Sunday, July 31, at 10 p.m. EST. For more on the series, visit For a sneak peek, check out the video clip below!

A Y&R/THE TALK Crossover!

As THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS continues its promotional blitz for the real-life Jabot Cosmetics line, stars Peter Bergman (Jack) and Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren) will drop by THE TALK tomorrow, Thursday, July 14, airing at 2 p.m. EST on CBS.

When the two actors visited the talk show set, they weren't just there to be guests on the chatfest. As their alter egos, they also shot scenes with co-hosts Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini, which will air on Y&R on Thursday, July 28! "I've seen [THE TALK] a few times," Bregman says. "I was so thrilled to be able to meet Leah and Holly. I followed Holly on CELEBRITY APPRENTICE and I've been a fan of Leah's since KING OF QUEENS."

The crossover was actually a reunion for Bergman and Remini -- the Emmy-winning daytime star once guested on KING OF QUEENS! "Peter Bergman is one of the sweetest guys in the world," Remini tells Soaps In Depth. "We did a dream sequence on THE KING OF QUEENS where we had to kiss. He was lovely then, and he is still lovely. Peter and Tracey were both gracious with THE TALK's audience, and even got us flowers the next day to thank us! Truly, a classy duo."

Why is it that only Robinson Peete and Remini will appear on the Y&R episode? "All of the ladies wanted to do it and all of them were up for it, but Y&R just asked for two," explains THE TALK executive producer John Redmann. "They're fans of [Y&R] so they were up on the characters.

"It's great exposure for us," he adds. "It'll bring more eyes to our show and it's a way to be a part of the CBS Daytime family. We have such respect for what they do on [Y&R.]"

Morgan Speaks Out On Drucilla Rumors!

Ever since the news was confirmed that Debbi Morgan (Angie, ALL MY CHILDREN) would be joining the cast of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS come September, after the ABC sudser wraps production on the network, the rumor mill has been churning with buzz that the Emmy winner had possibly been tapped as a Drucilla recast. The actress has taken to her Web site's blog to put those rumors to rest.

"As we get closer to my joining the show, which won't be until September, I will fill you in on who and what my character is. But for those who have speculated about the possibility of my taking over the role of the ex-Drucilla Winters, played by the wonderfully talented Victoria Rowell, I can tell you absolutely not!," she writes. "No way... No how! Ms. Rowell has put her stamp on the role of Drucilla, and I know her fans would be outraged to see me or any other actress come in and try to take her place. I wouldn't even attempt to go there. As far as I'm concerned, Victoria Rowell is simply irreplaceable as Drucilla."

Whatever role she does end up playing, Morgan says she's eager to "step into a new pair of shoes" after spending more than 25 years, off and on, as Angie Hubbard. "I am terribly excited about the role I will be playing and can only hope that my devoted fans who have followed my career as Angie all these years, as well as many of the other roles I've played outside of daytime, will take this new journey along with me!"
