Why Is Y&R's Stafford So Disappointed?

"I thought it was rigged," Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) tells Soaps In Depth. No, the actress isn't talking about the Daytime Emmy pre-noms, but rather Season 12 of DANCING WITH THE STARS. On Tuesday, Stafford's pal, Kirstie Alley, came in second, losing the coveted mirror ball trophy to Hines Ward, a professional football player with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Stafford feels that that Alley should have won for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the phenomenal progress that she displayed during the course of the ABC reality competition series. "Let's get really down to it! Who could do [what she did] and get to the end and have all the snafus and other stuff?" Stafford says of her pal. "She's the hottest one on that floor -- and the sexiest! You can quote me!"

What do you think, readers? Did Alley deserve to win? Weigh in below!

Y&R's Scott Is A Grandmother!

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and her husband, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL producer Ed Scott, are first-time grandparents... times two! The couple's daughter, Jennifer, gave birth to twins earlier today.

"We've got babies!" the proud grandmother tweeted. James Rawlings Christenson was born at 7:59 a.m., weighing 6 lbs., 3 oz., and his sister, Charlotte Scott Christenson, entered the world at 8:00 a.m., weighing 6 lbs., 2 oz. The babies are the first for Jennifer Scott Christenson -- a Y&R and B&B associate director who began her career as a production associate at her mom's soap -- and husband John. Congratulations to the entire family!

UPDATE: "I am in love!" Scott tells Soaps In Depth. "James is a handsome low key guy, just chillin'. Charlotte is stunningly beautiful and knows it! Very alert beyond her hours. They had to take her out of my arms but I'll be back soon to get another fix. Fixed for life! We are all so very happy and blessed. Also grateful to so many friends and fans around the world for their kind wishes."

Co-Star Will "Miss" West

Soaps In Depth caught up with THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael) at last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS finale, and the Emmy winner confessed that he was just as sad as the rest of the daytime world that Maura West has been let go as Y&R's Diane. "Maura told me," shares LeBlanc of his co-star, who was given her pink-slip last Friday, May 20, as In Depth first reported.

Although the two daytime powerhouses didn't share many scenes on Y&R, they did get to play opposite each other in 2005 when LeBlanc's Michael crossed over to AS THE WORLD TURNS for two episodes dealing with J.J.'s custody battle. "I stalked Maura most of these last few months trying to sneak into scenes with her," LeBlanc jokes of wishing they'd shared more Y&R screen time. "I wanted to work with her. I know I will work with her again because that's how it works in this business."

LeBlanc adds that the Y&R cast is losing a tremendous talent with West's exit. "I will miss her," he says. "Maura's a wonderful, wonderful actress. I cannot tell you how amazed I am at her skill. She knocks my socks off. I know the best will happen for her. I'm trying to be nice to her so she'll put me in her movies!"

West's Y&R Gig Goes South

Less than a year after she joined the cast of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, insiders whisper to Soaps In Depth that Maura West has been let go as Diane. Although West won multiple Emmys for her turn on AS THE WORLD TURNS as Carly, the talented actress just couldn't get the same lightning to strike twice with her Y&R role, as viewers and industry insiders alike found the fan favorite miscast in the role of Victor's ex (and current!) wife. There's no word yet on how West -- or Diane -- will exit the canvas. Y&R had no comment.

Soap's Rock Gods Team Up!

Call it a match made in 80's pop music heaven! THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Jack Wagner (Nick) is joining GENERAL HOSPITAL's Rick Springfield (ex-Noah) on his 4th annual "Rick Springfield & Friends Cruise" November 5, through November 10!

Wagner cracked the Top 40 in 1985 with his ballad "All I Need," just four years after Springfield's "Jesse's Girl" became a No. 1 single. Ironically, although both actors were fan favorites on GH in the early 1980s, Wagner (who played Frisco on the ABC soap) says he and Springfield have never officially crossed paths before! "Never met him," confirms Wagner. "But this offer [to join the cruise] came in, and it sounded interesting. I've never done anything like it in my life, so it should be something different."

Also joining Springfield and Wagner will be THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Doug Davidson (Paul), who will be participating in question-and-answer sessions and other various fan events, and original MTV VJ Mark Goodman.

If you're interested in booking tickets for the cruise, go to for more information.

Ratings Shocker!

As fans rally in an attempt to save their soaps, one thing that comes up time and again are questions regarding ratings. In an attempt to answer questions regarding how audience size is measured and what is -- and, perhaps more importantly, isn't -- counted when it comes to figuring out how many eyeballs a show is attracting, we went straight to the source. Here, Scott Brown, Senior Vice President of Strategies and Digital Platforms for the Nielsen company answers your most pressing questions!

While the entire conversation can be read below, two pieces of information -- answering topics most often asked of us about ratings -- are worth commenting on. The good news: According to Brown, shows viewed via TiVo or DVR within three days of their original broadcast are included in the overall Nielsen numbers. (It should be noted that as with all Nielsen information, this only applies to shows that are DVR'd or TiVo'd by those in the Nielsen pool, as detailed below.) The bad news: When it comes to shows viewed on-line -- whether via Hulu or a specific network's site -- only count if the on-line version contains the exact same commercials as the network broadcast. Why is this bad news? Because anyone who has ever watched their favorite show via an on-line site knows that in general, there are far fewer ads featured during on-line airings. Currently, none of the soaps which can be viewed on-line feature the same ads as the network broadcast, meaning that those viewing their shows in non-traditional formats are not being counted in the all-important Nielsen ratings.

For the full details on our chat with the folks at Nielsen, read more after the jump!

Catch The Shaughnessy Buzz

The future is here, and we can't wait to tell you about it! From the creative minds of brothers Charles Shaughnessy (ex-Shane, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) and David Shaughnessy (a director on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) comes COFFEY BUZZ, a weekly lifestyle video-zine that purports to change the way people shop online using Hyperspot technology. "We're making a show with Lissa Coffey -- she's a lifestyle coach and relationship/fashion/beauty/health guru -- that's going to be interactive and clickable!" Shane's portrayer relates.

Clicking on anything of interest in the video will add information about it to a cart -- it's so much fun! "I think that the soap universe will absolutely 'get' this," he says. "We will be doing a segment behind the scenes at a soap, [which] will be a great opportunity for that."

The premiere episode, launched just in time for Mother's Day, can be found at For more about the new technology, as well as details about Charles' June reprisal of his role as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, check out his "Catching Up With..." feature in the June 6 issue of Soaps In Depth.

Lamas Ties The Knot... And Changes His Name!

Here's to hoping that the fifth time will be the charm: Lorenzo Lamas (ex-Hector, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) made things official with fianceé Shawna Craig over the weekend, exchanging vows in front of a small group of family and friends on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, confirms E! In fact, the new Mrs. Lamas is younger than the actor's two oldest children, A.J. Lamas (Rafi, AS THE WORLD TURNS), 27, and Shayne Lamas-Richie (ex-teenaged Carly, GENERAL HOSPITAL), 25, who served as a bridesmaid! But since love knows no boundaries, our best wishes to the newlyweds!

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Lamas confirms to TMZ that the actor wants "to start over fresh" with his new marriage, and will be taking his new wife's last name. So world, please welcome Mr. Lorenzo Craig!
