Goddard's Not Going Anywhere!

Ever since Cane was shot and killed on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, fans have been clamoring for his portrayer, Daniel Goddard, to return to the canvas for more than just ghostly appearances to his alter ego's widow, Lily. This may be the good news Y&R fans have been hoping for: Soaps In Depth hears that -- due in part to the fan support he's received since Cane was killed off -- Goddard is definitely not leaving the show, and will continue to appear beyond just figments of Lily's imagination! A spokesperson for Y&R states that Goddard remains a contract player on the show.

Screen Idol-Turned-Soap Star Dies

1950s movie legend Farley Granger died at his Manhattan home on March 27 at the age of 85 from natural causes. Movie buffs will forever remember Granger for his roles in several Alfred Hitchcock films, including 1948's Rope and 1951's Strangers On A Train, but after leaving Hollywood for New York City, the actor found a successful second career in the world of daytime dramas. He received a Daytime Emmy nomination as Outstanding Actor in 1977 for his role as ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Dr. Will Vernon, and played Trent on THE EDGE OF NIGHT before settling in at AS THE WORLD TURNS in 1986 as Earl Mitchell, one of Lisa's numerous husbands.

ATWT grande dame Eileen Fulton (Lisa) tells Soaps In Depth that she was just beside herself when she learned that Granger would be playing her next Oakdale beau. "Such a handsome man. When I was in high school, his movie about the Hatfields and the McCoys came out," Fulton says of 1949's Rosanna McCoy, starring Granger and Joan Evans as young lovers caught between their feuding families. "We all had such a crush on Farley. When I heard that he was going to be my husband, I got all dressed up that morning to go to the studio. I wore black with pearls, I was really dolled up. I ran in, jumped on his lap and sang the little melody from the movie, and he said, 'Oh, I just hated that movie!'"

Granger had a special fondness for his leading lady, as well. "I'll never forget the night he took me home from a cast party. He said, 'Eileen, I love you. I really love you,'" Fulton recalls with a smile. "I remember looking down from being dazzled by his words... and saw his black sneakers sticking out from his tuxedo pants! He laughed and said, 'No one will notice my feet. But if they do, then I know I've lost my touch.' He never lost his looks or his charm. When I ran into him a year ago at a gathering, he was just as magnificent. I don't think he ever lost his touch."

Fulton adds that she has Granger to thank for her success as a cabaret singer. "He is the one who is responsible for getting me my voice teacher," she shares. "I'm singing all over the country now. I love that. And I loved working with him."

FarFromTheBayOLeary.jpgThis summer, Web soap opera THE BAY continues to break new ground by taking their show on the road. "I like to describe it as THE BAY meets The Wizard of Oz," explains the series' creator/writer/director, Gregori J. Martin. "It's kind of a prequel to season two, which will begin in late September."

Titled FAR FROM THE BAY, the 8-episode prequel will debut in June and follows amnesiac Peter Garrett (played by Kristos Andrews) on his journey to The Big Apple to find Claire -- played by AS THE WORLD TURNS' Marie Wilson (Meg) -- the woman whom he mistakenly believes is his mother. "He runs into all these characters that help him get one step closer to finding her -- I cast a slew of veteran actors from daytime," Martin previews. "And then we did the first ever Web soap crossovers with EMPIRE and STEAMBOAT."

Look for familiar faces like ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Ilene Kristen (Roxy) and Tonja Walker (Olivia), ANOTHER WORLD's Anna Holbrook (Sharlene), GUIDING LIGHT's Michael O'Leary (Rick) and Miriam Colon (Maria), and ATWT's Agim Kaba (Aaron) to appear. Find the show at

Exiting Actress Speaks Out!

Next week, Emily O'Brien will tape her last episodes as THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Jana. "It's okay," the actress tells Soaps In Depth. "I had a really good run. Five years is good. I'm closing this chapter and going on to something else. I'm very optimistic."

While O'Brien is open to doing another soap opera, she's also looking forward to tackling new genres. "I want to try to do some film here [in Los Angeles], but New York is definitely on my mind. Broadway has always been a passion of mine."

When and how will Jana exit the canvas? A last air date is not currently available, but sources say that Jana's deep desire to re-win Kevin's heart may cause her to take drastic action. Stay tuned!

McVicar's A Survivor

Almost three months after his son's tragic death, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL veteran Daniel McVicar (ex-Clarke) has found a somewhat surprising way to reconnect with him: appearing in Italy's L'ISOLA DEI FAMOSI -- a celebrity version of SURVIVOR. The B&B veteran had already been in talks to join the reality show's cast when he received the tragic news that his son, Hank, 22, had been killed in a car accident on January 3. After thoughtful consideration, McVicar, still in mourning, decided to go ahead and partake in the program. "This gives me, in a way, a chance to go camping [again] with my son," he tells Soaps In Depth. "Hank and I hiked [California's] Mount Whitney together and also went up Half Dome at Yosemite. The wilderness at Yosemite was a favorite place of mine to go with him. Hank was a fine camping companion and a guy who knew how to both hike and keep on hiking."

While the show airs in Italy, McVicar says that the program isn't actually set in the country. "We don't go to an Italian island," he clarifies. "[We're] doing it from Honduras. Unlike America's version of the show, we shoot in real time."

Is McVicar concerned that the cameras may be too intrusive as he continues the private mourning process? "I'm hoping to build a place of peace [where] the cameras will leave me alone," he says. "It's very strange that this show is in front of me. It was in my stream before [Hank's] accident and it's in my path after it. It's there for a reason and I'm going to find out what it is."

UPDATE: Y&R's Two Noahs Speak Out!

Yesterday, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS announced that Kevin G. Schmidt would be returning to the role of Noah, replacing the actor who replaced him, Luke Kleintank. "Having a blast working with everyone again!" Schmidt tweeted after the news broke. "First episode April 14th!"

After news of his exit was announced, Kleintank -- whose Noah recently left for New York City to focus on his music career -- took to his Twitter page, posting that "I will not be returning to Young and The Restless as Noah... I had to leave because of other projects I'm working on and I couldn't commit. Kevin should do great."

But what was the reason for the switch? In addition to his Y&R gig, Kleintank has recurring roles on the primetime dramas GOSSIP GIRL and NO ORDINARY FAMILY. Insiders speculate that with the soap's plans to bring Eden Baldwin back to Genoa City -- a casting call was put out for the role last played by Vanessa Marano late last week -- there will be a focus on Genoa City's younger set in the coming months, posing scheduling conflicts for Kleintank.

ATWT's Beck Has A Hot Date!

When John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GENERAL HOSPITAL) guest stars on LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT next month, another soap alum will be joining him! "Doing a spot this week on SVU with John Stamos!" an excited Noelle Beck (Lily, AS THE WORLD TURNS) tells Soaps In Depth. "Should be a good one!"

In the episode titled "Bang," Stamos will play an adoption attorney with a secret passion, and Footloose star Lori Singer also appears, as a new mother struggling with her additional responsibilities. Fresh off her first guest appearance on CBS' BLUE BLOODS in late February -- her second episode is scheduled to air on Friday, March 11 -- Beck is thrilled about the primetime work. "Life after Lily!" she jokes. "I'm playing Dr. Audrey Shaw, a specialist in reproductive abusers. I'm brought in to assist Benson [played by Mariska Hargitay] and Stabler [Christopher Meloni] with the case.... but she has a dark past," Beck teases.

Will Pilot Role Force Bethel To Bail?

Wilson Bethel just returned to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS as Ryder a few weeks ago, but might a role in a television pilot for the CW lead the actor to check out of Genoa City once again? Bethel has been cast opposite THE O.C. sweetheart Rachel Bilson in the comedic drama HART OF DIXIE, which stars Bilson as Zoe, a young New York City doctor who inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town populated by a rather eccentric lot of residents. "I play her bad-boy love interest," Bethel tells Soaps In Depth. "We're shooting in North Carolina." In fact, the actor will spend much of April on location for the pilot, but In Depth hears that Y&R will likely do some pre-taping so that Ryder won't be absent from the canvas during that time. But should the pilot go to series, whether or not he'll leave Y&R is a bridge Bethel will have to cross should the time come. "I'm not sure where it would shoot," he says.

Zimmer & Newman Together Again!

As GUIDING LIGHT's Josh and Reva, portrayers Robert Newman and Kim Zimmer (now Echo, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) will forever have a place in soap history as one of daytime's supercouples. And this spring, the duo will reunite when they star in the musical murder mystery Curtains! The production of the Broadway hit is a joint venture between Houston's Theatre Under The Stars and The Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. The show will run in Texas at the Hobby Center For The Performing Arts from Tuesday, March 29, through Sunday, April 10, then head to New Jersey from Wednesday, April 27, through Sunday, May 22.

Curtains follows the unraveling of a theater company on opening night, shortly after the leading actress meets an untimely death. Meanwhile, Zimmer stars as brassy Broadway producer Carmen Bernstein.
